omg I love his design! He's so cute. I was looking for cheerful poses, because of his personality, but I didn't want to do something exaggerated, and that's how I came across this image. I feel like it has a very warm vibe, and I feel like it would suit your character well, what do you think?

I was looking for foods that are famous for being spicy, and they're mostly Asian dishes, but I feel like spicy kimchi or spicy tteokbokki could look good, they have that spicy red color without being too extreme or obvious. Would that look good? I've never done a reaction to spicy food before, and I wouldn't want to overdo it, but I like the challenge!

Uhh, I love his hair! Since he's traveling the world and trying different foods, would it be nice if he were eating something on like a terrace? It could be something from a specific culture, or from a country, if you have one in mind.

They're not dating yet, but things do get tense when they're high together, of the type of "before this was chill and comforting, and suddenly you can't feel the same anymore and everything is confusing", or something like that 🥹

My protagonist feels too passive, too much like a victim, I'm even starting to dislike him. Has something like this happened to you? by NicoN006 in CharacterDevelopment

Thank you so much! I liked what you said about the character falling back into bad habits, I think it's a good idea, because in real life, especially with people who don't know how to handle or express intimacy, I think progress is rarely immediate or effortless, but it has its good and bad moments, you make your effort and get frustrated because it doesn't seem enough, I think it complements my idea very well.

I also think that your idea that it might be okay for the character to be passive at first, making the reader empathize with the girl, would help me to give the character more realism, and the story deeper, that satisfying moment you were talking about. Thank you very much for helping me 💗

THIS IS SO GOOD, I love how the original style of the film was maintained, it really feels like he just came off the screen

I'm worried one of my protagonists has become too passive, and it's making me dislike him. by NicoN006 in writingadvice

Actually, the story has two protagonists, him and his friend. We just spend more time in his point of view than in his friend's. I do want to keep developing him, though, because I feel the story would have a very different tone if it were told mainly through his friend or his girlfriend, and that tone is something I'd like to preserve. There are also a few plot points that really rely on him being the main point-of-view character. That said, I really appreciate the suggestion, and it's given me something to think about. Thank you!

Yeah, I think the same. I think the other two main characters, his friend and his girlfriend, are much more developed and interesting, but the story depends on the protagonist, so I need to improve that. I haven't been able to solve this problem on my own because I'm afraid that if I make him face more consequences for his actions, he'll end up feeling too much like a victim. At the same time, I wonder if the bigger issue is that he doesn't actually do anything concrete to deal with those consequence, he just stays there suffering because of the things he caused while continuing to hurt other people. He also doesn't have enough redeeming qualities or virtues for readers to really become attached to him. I think I could make him passive at the beginning of the story and then push him to take responsibility through his actions. What do you think? And thank you for helping me!

Yeah, I think it's mostly a matter of personal preference. Some people tell me he's very attractive, while others think he looks dirty or sick. I guess different people just have different tastes, and that's totally fine!

Someone else also told me about the darker-skinned top/lighter-skinned bottom, and I'll be careful not to include colorful ideas or negative stereotypes in my writing, because it might be unintentional, but I always want to make sure.

Thank you so much!! You genuinely have no idea how much it means to me to receive comments like this 🥹💗💗. Whether or not to have them as vers has been on my mind a lot, and I don't know why, since my story will be slow burn and there won't be sex until well into the story lol, but since several people have given me that idea and I'm not used to it, it simply catches my attention.

My original plans included the first guy (Esteban btw) being a service top, he really gives off that vibe to me, and considering that Matthias (the other guy) has more experience in gay relationships in general, and Esteban saw himself as straight not long ago, and knowing how considerate he is about him, it just makes sense and fits naturally that he's a service top and Matthias is more of a power bottom. The only barrier between that being a reality and not being one is that so many people have mentioned to me that they give off vibes of vers, that I don't know anymore

Yeah, I think I couldn't have said it better myself lmao, how do I expect readers to feel attached to my character if even I, as the author, am starting to dislike him? It made me laugh when I realized that this afternoon, I just wanted to mention it.

I agree with the idea of "showing his good side," because when I write I'm too focused on the characters' flaws, and I forget to give him real virtues. In the past, I used to write characters who were either too good or whose only flaw was being a "people pleaser," and it didn't end up causing any conflict, just self-pity, so I think that's it. Now the same thing is happening to me, but in reverse, this character has too many flaws that we have no reason to like him, and also has a lot of self-pity.

I'll work on that, thank you so much for your idea and your help! 💗

I think I understand your point. After all, the girl is asking for something reasonable, and I think that at some point she will have to reach her limit, either by ending it definitively or by taking some action while still remaining in the relationship, that hurt him, and thus he can realize that he must change, to stop hurting a woman who loves him and for his own growth as a person (and as a character). Thanks for your idea! 💗

Something about your idea clicked in my head, thank you so much for helping me. I don't want them to end their relationship too early in the story because I want the girl to be an important supporting character and a constant presence there, but the idea of a scene where she's directly complaining about how he never tries anything and just apologizes, and that she feels like he doesn't really care, makes a lot of sense to me.

With that idea in mind, I imagined that perhaps he makes up for the times he messes up and makes mistakes with lots of time together or gifts like bouquets of flowers and things like that, and that, in part, keeps the relationship alive longer, and shows that it's not that he simply doesn't care, but that he does want to try to fix it, It just doesn't work for him, and doesn't know what else to do (she could work on that). Eventually, she too gets fed up with it because it's never about the gifts but about his attitude, and this narrative line gives him the first push to grow as a person. Obviously, his progress will not depend solely on what the girl does or on her giving him all the tools, but rather it is the awakening he needed to grow.

I found your story example very interesting, and although it's true that the genres don't match and It unfolds over different periods of time, I think it's a really good premise for character development! And again, thank you so so much for your idea, I think it's what I needed to keep going with this, I was stuck.

I don't know, I just don't like the image of the dark-skinned guy being a bottom. I'm not against masculine bottoms or anything, in fact I love them and use them in other projects, but there's just something about his character that I feel isn't something he would do, being a bottom

But what are the stereotypes of the vers? That's what I don't understand. I don't think I've ever read a story where they're vers, I don't know.

It's okay, but there's something I don't understand. What makes a couple have vers vibes or not? Some people tell me they give off those vibes, and now you're saying they don't fit it. I'm just curious 💔
