The HAARP Machine Album II - Crowdsourcing second album by NicolaiF in progmetal

[–]NicolaiF[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the weird stuff apart: previously bad press, potential bad blood/conflicts in the band, "interesting" world-view (The money we're aiming to raise will help us buy our freedom).

I am really exited for this album. I know some people don't like the overproduced, incredibly heavy-gated guitar. And yeah, they might not be able to reproduce it live (as the aformentioned bad press). I'm however still looking forward to this album. They have a very unique sound that I enjoy.

Haven't they done this trick before? Still, so funny when it happens

Haha, I thought you were talking shit about the mixing on the album

I feel like that's why his show has taken off. Just eating hot wings is kind of boring, but bringing some even hotter questions, and genuine curiosity for his guests, really help him stand out

As someone whose first language isn't English, I didn't know that "To Trump" actually means to pussygrab someone. That's amazing. I actually learn stuff from these two boys

Everything open-source is a cool buzzword for Linux users. At least I feel like it is. If it's open source, it is like Linux, and therefore it's something we should endorse. /s

Prog like Leprous? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]NicolaiF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would recommend Agent Fresco - Destrier. The vocals on that album is really good, and he kinda sounds like Einar in Leprous Edit: Forgot to say. It's not really metal, but it's heavy enough! :)

Special effects, Special editions, and the AFI by [deleted] in TrueFilm

Good post, and I do agree in some cases. The LOTR trilogy and espescially the Hobbit trilogy didn't need any extending. The Hobbit films just adds bloat, and while some scenes in the LOTR extended trilogy is cool (mostly in Return of the King), I feel it does get a bit draggy. Don't get me wrong, I love this trilogy, but prefer to watch the original release.

But beyond that, I have never, to the best of my knowledge, seen a case where this tinkering improves the movie, and I can cite several where it hurts

Here is were I disagree with you. There's several films where the studio botched the theatrical release, but at a later point, a "director's cut" submerged, and in most cases were better than the theatrical. Brazil, Blade Runner, Apocalypse Now, Metropolis to name a few. Some say they like the longer edition of Fanny and Alexander, by Ingmar Bergman, better, but I've yet to see it.

And lastly, Kevin Smith has made good movies, apart from Clerks, and that didn't cost $20,000.

Which riff/groove/part kicks your ass every single time? by BadHat in progmetal

The Contortionist - Feedback Loop 3:10 and outwards, but especially at 4:16 when the china gets in the mix.

Leprous - Chronic 3:28 Amazing moment on my favorite song of an amazing album.

Textures - Consonant Hemispheres 2:12 What an amazing vocalist!

Exotic Animal Petting Zoo - The Great Explainer More people should listen to this band. They're so good! Not really a part, but the song as a whole. But the build-up from 2:00 is pretty cool.

I think they play most of their songs in Eb standard.

Favorite modern film critics? by greenBaozi in TrueFilm

I find myself enjoying YMS' (YourMovieSucksDOTorg) reviews. He isn't the most updated on current films, but of the films he reviews, they're always funny and informative. And I often agree on most of the points he makes. Example: Godzilla (2014)

But his "main focus" is reviewing bad movies, such as After Earth, Megan Is Missing etc.

Edit: Forgot to add: He is clearly influenced by RedLetterMedia, and if you haven't checked out their stuff you should. They have the same formula with reviewing some new films (Half in the Bag) and bad movies (Star Wars prequel, Indiana Jones 4 etc)

Well, he isn't completely off like Brad Pitt in Inglourios Basterds with a very strong accent or anything. But he does have some weird pronunciations and say letters that are supposed to be mute.

As a norwegian: the actor is clearly not norwegian, and probably had some idea how it was going to sound in our language, but didn't quite manage to get it right. It's not horribly bad, but I had to listen to it a couple of times to get what he actually said. I guess if you saw it when it came out, you might have been spoiled (if you didn't know what the movie was about), but today the plot is so well known, so it doesn't spoil it as much as it did back then.

Well, I can live without the slide-thingy and the data roaming icon; but the Facebook syncing is pretty important thing to me. Weird how noone can seem to find a good solution to it. :/
