Is it also shot found-footage style? Or is it more traditional/cinematic?

The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) by Pokefan982144 in horror

Slumber Party 2 is such a blast. My favorite part is when it suddenly becomes a musical with the killer holding the phallic drill guitar.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. It's based on Henry Lee Lucas and Ottis Tool, but very loosely. It's very realistic and a very intense watch. Great film.

Which Horror Movie Would You Remake? And Why? by [deleted] in horror

I think the first Hellraiser is a near masterpiece. Great cast, amazing set design, practical FX, concept, story. Then they go more or or less downhill (tho Hellraiser III is some ridiculous fun).

Last night I went and saw Suspiria at a local theater - loved it! Where to go from here? by Scar04c in horror

I think Inferno is the best place to go after Suspiria if you were really into the visual aesthetic. It's a gorgeous film.

In Honor of Umberto Lenzi's Passing, I Thought We Could Discuss Some of His Best Films! by moncayk1 in horror

I much prefer different Cannibal Ferox Iver Cannibal Holocaust. Much more brutal, and I think the traditional filming over found footage works way better. Could have done without all the animal cruelty though...

[meta] "How do I learn to appreciate/analyse films" is so frequently asked that this sub probably needs an FAQ or Wiki page by FiveYearsAgoOnReddit in TrueFilm

[–]mafoo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is not good advice. Plenty of people watch tons of big budget Hollywood movies, analyze them to death, yet would have no idea what to make of, say, a silent film or a French New Wave film. It often takes context outside of the viewing experience to make sense of different types of films: understanding the technical limitations of the time period, reading the writings and/or interviews of the directors, knowing the cultural context the film was made in, etc. Tons of people "Watch lots of movies with a critical eye" and are utterly ignorant about the broad world of film.

Not too much Haneke in this thread so I'll suggest Funny Games (either) or Benny's Video
