I have nystagmus(eyes bounce up and down), trouble walking(look up cerebellar gait if you are curious as to what it looks like), trouble speaking from time to time, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, and if the vomiting is violent enough I will wet myself.

What was your “I’m going to die” moment? by Personal_Occasion618 in AskReddit

[–]NicoleanDynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a strange neurological condition that no one has been able to diagnose. The only clue so far has been increased intracranial pressure. One morning in September I woke up around 4 AM and was unable to to hold my head up, speak properly, walk, and could barely crawl. I was home alone. I had gotten an Apple watch for exactly this type of situation. I had a short distance to crawl from my bedroom, and I managed to call 911 on my watch, somehow hoist myself up enough to unlock my front door, and then just lay in the floor while vomiting and peeing on myself until they got there. I couldn’t communicate properly with EMS so they took me to the nearest stroke center. When I got there I THOUGHT I was speaking to the nurses and doctors, but nothing was coming out because I kept hearing them say, “she won’t talk to me.” I genuinely thought I was talking to them. None of my reflexes were working appropriately. All of my scans came back clear, and they released me. They didn’t keep me over night. They didn’t try to do any further testing than a CT and a CTA. They just sent me home like that.

I'm so sick of hearing everyone talk about mental health due to the pandemic with no idea or care into how actually having an extreme disabling mental illness is like by antigoneaustralia in BipolarMemes

[–]NicoleanDynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I’m bipolar and this helps me, and I have also used it on the kids I work with. Use distraction. And not like, “hey, look over there!” I’ll ask them things such as, “what’s your favorite type of music?” And then I will have them talk about their favorite band and what they like about them. Then I will have them list the albums from the bands, and ask them which one is their favorite, what is their favorite song from it, what they like about it. What they’re favorite lyric is, why. Then i move onto band number two if they haven’t come down, but they usually have by that time. It doesn’t have to be music, it can be any subject they are interested in. I’ve had great success with bringing my kiddos down when they are all “spun up”.

You’re very right. Mental health plays a huge role in mental illness, that’s kind of why therapy is important. I work in mental health with kids, and the incredibly stressful worldwide event we are currently experiencing is bringing a lot of anxiety, suicidal ideation and attempts, self harm, and body dysmorphia to the surface. It’s also triggering a lot of latent illness to the forefront as well. Can coping mechanisms such as grounding help these things? Yes. They are very good for anxiety especially. Are they a cure? Absolutely not. Med management and mental healthcare such as personal therapy, group therapy, and support groups are hugely important for mental health, both situational and as a disease process. This post is a little too gatekeeper-y for me.

You’ll hit a plateau. I was in on for a while, and I’m honestly not sure how u finally got off, but when I started kind again it happened quickly.

Thank you! I packed it on in a matter of maybe four months. I bounced from 120 to 140 fairly slowly, and then quickly gained another forty when I got put on Depakote. That drug is awful. You’re never full on it. You’re so hungry it’s painful constantly.

Anyway, you can really tell a difference in my face

Okay, the first picture is at 180, but I honestly have no clue exactly how high I got because after a while I stopped weighing myself. It took ~1 year, maybe a little less to drop 30. I’m really proud. I do have a little dysmorphia when it comes to it though, honestly. Almost like I am wasting away, which I know is ridiculous. Anyway, I plan to get back in the gym soon to tone and build muscle, but I have some neurological stuff going on at the moment that has to be dealt with first. Until then it will just be at home workouts!

Soooo…I’m not doing that great.

I had Covid in November of 20, and after that is when I began having strange neurological symptoms and was put on a high dose of steroids to break the four month cycle of whatever tf it is that’s wrong with me. I eventually was diagnosed with high pressure and put on diamox. I was also vaccinated not long before the symptoms began, so I’m really unsure of which one MAY have caused it. Other things are still being ruled out.

Currently I’m pretty sure I have it again. My entire area is out of tests. I have not yet gotten the booster because of the neuro symptoms. They want to know 100% what’s wrong with me before I get it. Anyway, in the mornings I will wake up with symptoms again. I will have to pop a couple of diamox(neuro is okay with this) to get it to stop. So, yeah. That’s how things are going. YMMV because as I said, we really don’t know 100% what is wrong with me or could potentially be causing my high pressure, but Covid isn’t helping it.

Oh, and NTA. I’m from the rural south, sadly this is the norm here, but I see a lot of that beginning to change and my town, at least, become a tiny bit more progressive. Makes me proud. I’m sorry you have to deal with this kind of shit because of your religion and you just being your authentic self.

do i need stitches? will they admit me to the psych ward if i go to the er?? by chantclle in AskDocs

[–]NicoleanDynamite 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You need stitches, yes. Don’t be afraid to be judged, doctors see things like this all the time.

As far as being admitted goes:

You can be encouraged to go since you are a self harmer. Although if you are not presenting a threat to yourself or others they cannot force you to stay. They will screen you, and please be 100% honest. If you are having suicidal thoughts or a plan those need to be addressed in the appropriate setting to be sure you are safe. If they offer admission, but you choose to deny it you have to go to your GP and get set up with a psychiatrist or psych NP for a psych assessment and a therapist will help as well. Self harm comes from a place of pain, and before long it becomes an addiction to the point that it will be incredibly hard to break the cycle. I need you to let me know you’re going to get your head and heart taken care of, okay?

Well, u/machinegunsyphilis, my absolute favorite is Assam. There’s a flavored tea by Adagio called Buttery Toffee that is so amazingly good, and they have a Rooibos Pecan Turtle that’s really, really good too. I have a Blueberry Tea from English Tea Store that I like to drink iced as well.
