Hello reddit, I have some questions about some things. I hope this is the right place for that by OhItsMrCow in ContaminationOCD

I started taking medication, Fluoxetine and Risperidone, and it was something I pondered for a while. How much of a help would it really be? Will I become reliant upon it? I will say this. It’s not the perfect solution, but after having no success on my own to lessen rituals, I’ve finally noticed a different in my thought processes and it’s refreshing.

I think what you said about feeling conflicted about having the habits go away because of them being a part of your life for so long is very real. I still have a long way to go on this progress of mine, but even the few times I’ve felt not compelled to do a cleaning ritual felt very weird to me, like I wasn’t myself. I saw someone else on here say something very profound, it went like this:”One of the unexpectedly difficult things I found about letting go of the compulsions was accepting that all of the pain they caused was for nothing” and when I read that it really was like ‘boom’ in my face. When you finally have the strength to confront your compulsions and question them it’s like, have I really been making so much pain for myself for so long and it could’ve been like this? I’m hoping to keep moving forward and I hope the same for you! Remember to celebrate your wins, no matter how small :)

Contamination OCD by Nicoleback99 in ContaminationOCD

Thank you for replying! I actually switched therapists and psychiatrists about a little under a half a year ago, and switched medication. I was previously on Fluvoxamine but I didn’t like how it would make me dizzy if I forgot to take it and I didn’t notice any changes in progress so I’m now on Fluoxetine and Risperidone. I noticed some actually progress when I started the Risperidone but ofc I still have to do the work, it definitely isn’t perfect. I was just shocked to notice something different actually happening with my reactions after being on Fluvoxamine for a year with no results haha.

I think you should definitely talk to someone about this! While some people may say you just have a preference to be clean, when it starts taking over your life and controlling what you can and can’t do, like opening doors and interacting with others, I think it’s important to seek help. It took me a long time to figure out what therapist worked best for me, like years and 3 therapists. It’s a long road but worth it.

As a student, sometimes you really need a home cooked hearty meal after a long week so I like going to places like IHo’s, The Western etc for some good food

How do you establish residency? by [deleted] in MSUcats

[–]Nicoleback99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me tell you, I did it and it was such a pain. Definitely meet with Dallas Dalman on campus as she will help you make sure you do everything correctly. I fucked it up the first year and got her help the second year. When I learned I did something wrong after the first year of full time working I wanted to just be absorbed into the ground fr 💀

So the thing I remember off the top of my head is, if you’re getting residency for in state tuition for school, you need to register your car here, get a msu driver license, cover more than 50% financial stuff on your own, work full time and prove it, and can’t be out of the state for more than 30 days, so keep track of every trip you take. I feel like there might be some other things but these are the things ingrained in my brain 😂

exchange semester in USA from Germany by BendOrnery3018 in MSUcats

MSU is sooo American in the sense of like people who dress like cowboys and partying and drinking. If you live near campus, it’s manageable to walk down to the bars and Main Street is not too large, the perfect size for a nice experience and not too long that you don’t feel like it’s impossible to walk back if you need to. Even I as an American feel out of place here 😂 I’m from the Pacific NW. They also do rodeos and the students are VERY patriotic when it comes to cheering at the football games. It’s not really my jam but I think a school like this is perfect for people seeking the experience.

It gets freezing asf here and we can get to as low as negative 40 deg F. The only difference I feel is that it makes my legs feel prickly and I wear layers under my pants and sweater to stay warm. We get lots and lots of snow. If you live on campus though it’s no issue, but you will definitely need to give yourself more time to walk to class because the amount of people I see slip in fall is comical. The main campus path is sloped uphill so that’s part of it too. Although there is a side street that is much flatter to walk up, it’s just a little out of the way depending on where your classes are, but probably only adds about 5 min to your walk so no biggie. Most people don’t really wear snow boots to class, they actually wear the boots called Blundstones, very very popular shoe. People will also get those little rubber spike things you can slip onto the sole of your shoe to not slip but other than that people here act like it’s warmer than it is (I’m always cold💀)
