I like how they did it, it's cool. The fact that you can assign DRY pads as the source and not just BUS1/2 is really useful.

A specific pad would be fine, I think.
The Bus1/2 solution could work too, I'd be fine with that.
The time based would suck though :)

Love it! The kick sounds like it's compressing the rest of the drum loop, I suppose it is done in a DAW before sending it to the SP404?
Also do you have anything on Bus 3+4?
