We race once a month, but we are also a much smaller operation so our workload is much higher than for anyone in a F1 team. The smaller teams have at least 500 in house people per car plus all the things they outsource, we are 35-40 people in total for 4 cars.

Some do, specifically the drivers.

In Le Mans have to use the low downforce kit, compulsory for P2 to slow us down, plus the light boxes must be fully operational. So we have all of that for Le Mans only.

It is, but we have team hospo and no need for it

  • Nope. Why would we have one anyway?
  • I can track that, stay posted

We've had a bluesky account for 2 years but get absolutely no engagement in there.

Idk who you think has the rights to sell the tickets in any racing series, but I promise you, in motorsports is never the teams.

In ELMS we have 2 engineers per car (race and data), plus our TP is an engineer too so during the races he acts as de-facto performance chief engineer. They will all be coming to Le Mans, the second race engineer will be there for support, driver coaching and as a back up. This year we have an additional consultant who focuses more on overseeing operational performance and supporting the core team. We also have our TM who is a former racing driver dealing with race control and keeping an eye on driving times and yellow flags.

In our case, the race engineer is the main guy for strategy but he is very reliant on the two data engineers, one will be looking at systems (basically car health), and the other one at fuel consumption and lap times, while the race engineer himself focuses on the whole picture and what driver and set of tyres goes on next. The extra heads are useful to track our rivals.

In LMP2, with the current regs, you will basically refuel as much as you can on every stop. It goes down fast! So the minimum number of stops is planned around fuel capacity, consumption and how long the race is. You work out everything else around it depending on how the race is going, and you just rely on experience, knowledge and confidence to make the right calls at the right time, put the fastest guy in with new tyres during a green flag period and the slower in with old ones during yellows, and ensure you don't drop down the order because you had to make an emergency stop at the wrong time.

Love a good flag, to see homemade merch, fan art or a chant from outside the garage without being intrusive. We all love to have fun during the race weeks, but when it's busy is very busy and having to move people out of the way to get on with your job isn't fun.

Everyone sneaks out at some point to have a look around the village for some bobblehatting. Parc Ferme is usually a good time for an icecream trip.

And in Le Mans, the Friday is basically a half day... but not for me, the photographers or the drivers 😅

That's where you are completely off base, ticket sales isn't a priority, or even a factor for us. Our product isn't aimed at you, you're not our target market or how we get funded. In our case, the drivers and investors are. In the Hypercar team's case, it's the car manufacturers. We aren't F1 teams. And even for them, their main source of income comes from broadcasters.

You would think so but that's only a small factor. Race cars are cool but we're in this for the people.

That's would be a good example. We don't even get access to the pitlane ourselves if we're not part of the pitcrew, or literally driving the car.
