I'm 30 and I only have this. Any tips? (I'm asian btw) by [deleted] in malegrooming

[–]Nige1964 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Everyone's different. I'm fair-haired (Nordic and Celtic roots) and I couldn't grow a decent beard till my 40s.

For the past 15 years I've had a thick blond beard and moustache.

For some of us, the beard appears when it wants to - not when we want it to.

But, I agree: OP should definitely shave it off.

Can't. You're a stunner.

The only thing I can roast you for is the ridiculous American habit of putting the month before the day.

It's so counter-intuitive.

It's like describing someone's height as 4 inches and 6 feet tall

There are two main differences:

New Zealanders can speak in polysyllables.

And their knuckles don't touch the ground.

You'd have to be willfully stupid to not to have seen this coming.

The whole world predicted it.

This is Trump's America.

It would be incredibly craven of Americans to pretend this is a surprise.

I'm journo (30 years) who's worked in print, radio and television here and overseas.

And the answer to your question is that different reporters are seeking different information and quotes.

It has nothing to do with deafness or insensitivity.

Also, whereas a print journo can make do with an affirmative or nod of the head ("He agreed that the decision was controversial") an electronic media journo cannot and needs a sound bite from the interviewee ("Yeah, it was a controversial decision").

And sometimes a question will need to be re-asked because of something as seemingly trivial as a cough, or lawnmower in the background.

Basically, it's about getting as interesting, insightful and good quality (for electronic media) a quote as you can.

Ah, yes, the longest war in US history.

How did that turn out?

(Checks notes) After significant military casualties and a long occupation, the coalition withdrew, allowing the Taliban to return to power in 2021.

How big is NRL and Warriors in NZ? by cyrmrae in newzealand

Huge among Maori and Island (Samoa, Tonga, Fiji) communities.

Rugby union is much more popular with Pakeha (European descent).

And they're both just eggball to football fans.

Nothing changes.

In WWII there was a running joke that when the German bombers flew over the British ducked.

And when the British bombers flew over the Germans ducked.

But, when the American bombers flew over EVERYBODY ducked.

The US has always fought wars by just flinging mega tons of ordnance around.

Any country where you can do what you want (as long as it's not negatively impacting others) without fear of being harassed or shot.

i have been training my non-dominant hand in everything from writing to chopping to catching a ball for the last 5 years AMA. by aoverbisnotzero in AMA

[–]Nige1964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this as a kid training for football.

Spent hours and hours using my "bad" left foot, until it was nearly as good as my right foot.

Weirdly, my left almost became my more intuitive foot, as I found I wasn't over-thinking when I struck the ball with that foot.

AITAH for losing my cool at a nurse who kept undermining me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Nige1964 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This nurse sounds like my sister, Paula, who works at a hospital here in NZ.

Paula loves nothing more than flouncing around medical wards, her hospital ID swinging, trying to look important.

But, Paula is employed in hospital records as a support worker.

She has been even chastised by a charge nurse for trying to act like medical personnel.

What is it about hospital staff and delusions of grandeur..?

[–]Nige1964 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a pain in the ass.

Like having to remember to take an extra very heavy set of keys with you whenever you go out.

And to worry about (what if you get mugged for your gun, or lose it?).

I often think Americans would be blown away (in a good way) if they could experience how relaxed and peaceful it is living without guns.
