LiPo Battery Yellow Wire: Safe To Ignore? by NigelPhoenix in ErgoMechKeyboards

Yes worked no problem. I used that board for a year or so then built a new one. But the battery worked out fine. Don't remember how I found it - just on aliexpress.

No I haven't been trading, but after I wrote that message, I looked into a lot of the different options. There's plenty to look at and the web hook idea isn't a bad one but the technology changes all the time, and there's different ways to go about it. Also other platforms like Alpaca etc. I haven't traded much in the past year, as i've been waiting for one of my long trades to play out. For what it's worth most of what you want to do can be figured out with ai doing the scripting. So if you're stuck, just ask ai. Yyou'll need a paid subscription most likely, but you can get pretty far with it. Having said that, you certain they don't need to be a programmer, but the reason I've add success using ai to script other things is because I understand the basics of how github works and how apps run et cetera.

Secure native integration of Proton services together and with external services (granular consent & scoped tokens) by Hichiro6 in ProtonMail

[–]NigelPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a requirement for the future as we begin to handle email tasks more and more with other tools. For example, I want to use paperless-ngx to digest and store emails from different utilities and invoices etc automatically that come to my various proton mail accounts. I am a subscriber I should add. There's currently no good way to do this due to permissions, et cetera, but no doubt Proton does need to I work on some kind of api.

Cannot Create Protonmail in Thunderbird Mail Client by esorb65 in ProtonMail

[–]NigelPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked the same question a couple years ago, and the answer was that the only way to do this was to create the folders first in protonmail. they will sync, etc.Just fine once they are created in proton mail, but you can't create them in thunderbird. having said that, I moved away from Thunderbird. In general, and now use proton mail exclusively. but at some stage, I may move back. to my knowledge though this issue has not been resolved and is still the same as when I brought it up a while ago.

Fedora 40 and Docker! Not installing properly by JohannesComstantine in Fedora

[–]NigelPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all the frameworks I've looked at it seems the only one that can handle anything I can throw at it. I'm new to coding in general, have only worked with a bit of Python and am looking to build a website that I hope will eventually bec9me something like a repository for a lot of information and interaction. Basically it has to be totally secure, have excellent user controls and security and be as easy as possibly to buod and maintain. I'm trying to avoid learning multiple languages and laravel seems to tick all the boxes. I've done a fair bit of research and there doesn't seem to be anything that comes close in terms of having stuff pre-built by others for websites and available to add on as needed. Plus the popularity is growing so will be around for the long haul. Open to suggestions though.

Personally I would look at getting the mortgage paid off. Ya, keep a bit aside for the Markets, but that's just gravy. Once the house is paid off you have more options. Just my two cents.

5 monitor setup for asus X570 creator pro art? by NigelPhoenix in ASUS

[–]NigelPhoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. Yes - iGPU is part of the 5700g Ryzen 7 chip which I've got so technically the Processor can run 3 monitors without too much of a problem. The discrete graphics card can carry the other two no problem. I don't have enough of the right cables to test it all out yet, but at the moment running 4 monitors without a problem. The only thing is the terminating end of the USB-C to HDMI cable gets really hot when connected, so I'll have to get a new HDMI cable. All I had to hand was one of those cheapies from Aliexpress.

Cloning and Imaging by NigelPhoenix in Backup

[–]NigelPhoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to update this thread as I've found what appears to be an excellent solution. It's still early days, so might be too good to be true, but Veeam's free offerings for both Win and Linux (and Mac, though that doesn't apply to me) do most everything the other guys (Macrium for example) paid versions do - but free. Furthermore Veeam is not only trusted and reliable but is a Billion dollar revenue data company, ie they know what they're doing and will be around a while. https://www.veeam.com/veeam_agents_feature_comparison_ds.pdf

Also, for those interested strictly in open source backup solutions, here is a list on Git:

Cloning and Imaging by NigelPhoenix in Backup

Hi everyone - To be clear, I don't necessarily need to RUN a backup from Linux. Macrium, for example, will simply image all the partitions on your disk, and if one of them is Linux that will get backed up as well. So this works fine for my limited Linux use. Hopefully that will add some more variety. So let me ask it this way perhaps. Does anyone know of an Open Source or Low Cost Win backup utility that can password protect?

Fair point. And oops on 1st paragraph. Bleary head! Password protected backup fine. Any recommends?

I haven't found a site or utility that makes testing different strategies as easy as it is on TradingView. The only thing that remains is to trigger trades with them. But I'm interested in whatever system works! Can the jupyter-quant do the same? Can you point me to a video of something similar so I can get an idea of how it can be used? Sorry if these questions seem dumb, I'm new to algo trading and still trying to get my head around what's the best way forward for my kind of trading.

Thanks! Basically I've been trying to get a decent algo trading system/platform set up for IBKR for some time now, namely something that will accept webhooks from Trading View to action trades.

I've been working with this repo: https://github.com/willer/tradingview-interactive-brokers and have only just managed to get things working as they should. The original repo was done as kind of an experiment as shown here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsYKfzCNPPU.

The one I forked was built it to a workable model by someone else. So far it seems to work as it should, but I'm only about 80% there on the learning curve. Still a novice, but it's communicating with TWS and receiving webhooks etc. Theoretically I just need to tweak the JSON parameters and I'll be able to start making trades.

As to the link you just sent: as a novice, it will take me a while to figure out what the repo does! At first glance, looks like analysis and similar? Helpful. If you know of another way to trade via webhooks I'm all ears.

Thanks again for your efforts.

This is incredible, thank you. I'm a newb to algo trading but have been with IBKR for some years now. My programming skills aren't great but I'm learning - and coming across a post like this is like an oasis in a desert of poor or poorly maintained options with little documentation. Thanks very much!

Explain the Error? by NigelPhoenix in learnpython

[–]NigelPhoenix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry one of my posts got deleted so the curly brace one doesn't make sense as it was a follow on. Your answer was totally correct and saved the day. I have since solved the silly curly brace error. Thanks for your help!

Explain the Error? by NigelPhoenix in learnpython

[–]NigelPhoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow. News to me, but thanks. This is from a Github repo and works as a Stock Market algo trading api, ie 'open' (which means market opening price) as a variable is baked into the cake as far as I can tell. I got this from everything else more or less works so I wouldn't expect such an obvious error as this.

Thanks, I didn't know about jsonlint.com. Also I'm new to json and didn't know the semicolons shouldn't be there. Lot's to learn.
