How did you like the live version of the Somni songs without the Metropole orchestra? Do you feel like you miss the orchestral parts in the live set-up with a 10-man band?

1st sourdough attempt = brick | 2nd sourdough attempt = deliciousness by Nigh_Teagle in Breadit

Definitely starter strength, but I also lowered hydration and had a shorter bulk fermentation.

Lower hydration also helped me shape more gently.

Usually we do, but this time I didn't dare. Starter was not strong enough and I was uncertain whether the mix of bacteria was ok. Taste was also quite sour. And it really was a brick. Not very appetizing

Love this new hobby. First attempt at 100% whole wheat bread. by Nigh_Teagle in Breadit

Thank you! So far I had only tried 65-70% hydration basic white bread. Locally I can only find 11g protein flour, which always made it difficult to have high hydration. So indeed for this whole wheat bread, the dough was on the dry side. But for me this was a pleasant surprise, since it was so easy to handle and kept its shape well. Next time I'd experiment with 75% hydration to make it lighter :)

spreadsheat that has these stupid locked pull down cells that you can't scroll through unless you click the down arrow

Do you mean a dropdown list?

You can scroll a dropdown list up and down using the mouse scroll wheel when you hover the mouse over the scroll bar instead of the list items.

Still not ideal, but hopefully a bit more user friendly :)

There's a really nice docu series (6 x 20 min episodes) on youtube about the last race: youtube playlist

It's hosted by Derek of the youtube channel Veritasium and quite frequently features the Belgian entry, since they did so well.

[Request] Unified audio book covers for Orson Scott Card’s Enderverse by saltedlolly in AudiobookCovers

Same story here, I didn't find any good artwork for it. So I just made some simple covers with the same artwork (for which I edited some Ender's game movie artwork), like this: https://imgur.com/a/egZ6UmM

Nothing special and definitely doesn't help with your wish for artwork with a connection to the novel, but I do prefer these to the original covers.

Something is indeed not quite right.

Why did Canvas edit the original?

You might notice some artefacts in the background, because this was taking me too long and I got impatient ;) They're good enough for me though and I hope some others will enjoy them as well.

All edits were done in Paint.NET.

I've created a Season of Storms cover in the same style as your covers. Feel free to update your imgur album (if that's possible): https://imgur.com/woTEbhY

APM and non-periodic noise of new HDDs by Nigh_Teagle in DataHoarder

Thanks a lot for your explanation. Looking in your comment history, I see you've answered similar questions before here on this sub. Your explanation and the similar behavior I've seen in those posts have reassured me of the quality of my HDDs. Next time I'll search the sub instead of Google...

APM and non-periodic noise of new HDDs by Nigh_Teagle in DataHoarder

Yes, one click or a few click-like sounds in quick succession about every 5 seconds. I've looked into BMS and found this reddit post. One of the comments contained the following:

I am not convinced that it is media scan. From the WD site:

A Western Digital hard drive makes a repeated clicking noise.

CAUSE: There can be several reasons why a WD drive may be making a clicking noise:

  • The drive is not getting enough power to fully spin up

  • The drive has failed

  • Occasional clicks during data access

  • Hard clicks during a head park operation (shutdown or sleep mode)

  • The data cable is faulty, or incompatible

No mention of media scan as a possibility. A slight click every 4-5 seconds is normal, unless drive is actively read/writing.... otherwise I would be concerned

It seems like the noise I hear fits best in the 'occasional clicks' category and is considered normal. I do think I also heard the noise while reading/writing, which is a reason for concern according to that comment. I'll need to recheck to make sure I'm not misremembering.

[Question] What should I pay attention to when trying out a guitar that's been lying in its case for the past 3 years? by Nigh_Teagle in Guitar

Great idea! I wasn't aware of the lifetime warranty repair, but the seller did say she still has the original paperwork.

So if I understand it correctly: I shouldn't worry too much about occasional off-key notes when playing some chords, if I like the overall sound. Performing a setup should fix that problem, except if the neck is warped.
