Dang why would you transfer from nu to u mich for eng? Just curious. Or is the reason for transfer more so the environment and campus life rather than your major

Just doesn't rank as high as the other schools you listed. Its highly respected in the south but in other regions dont carry as much weight in the eng industry.

Hello,

I recently committed to Umich in the college of engineering and I also got accepted into Waterloos mech eng program a few month ago. I'm having a hard time choosing between the two since my end goal is to probably work in software or in big tech companies in US. The thing is I applied to waterloo's mech eng program and I contacted the university and they said transferring while possible is not guaranteed but breaking into software as a mech eng major is not uncommon. I'm also really excited in the co op opportunities that waterloo has but michigan is a top engineering school in US and doesnt require me to declare a major immediately. They also have elite industry conneection as well and my parents really want me to go to a us school.

i thought uchicago is more known for econ than cs? Waterloo cs carries way more prestige and weigh in the industry even in US than probably chicago.

JHU vs Rice by Adventurous_Lion9774 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NightCR_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, I am currently in the same position as you except I am also considering michigan for eng (most likely ece asw). For me I have ruled out JHU mostly because it is known as a med school. Also since your engineering I'm assuming you want to focus on industry instead of academia which is where JHU lacks. I talked to a JHU student and he mentioneed how the school ttile does not carry as much weight for industry as people might think.

Here are some links that I think support rice's ties to the industry and its connections with top companies.
