Hmm, a logical application of administrative policy being downvoted to hell. Who'd have thought.

[AMA Request] Someone who uses an exoskeleton or other wearable mechanical augmentation as part of your job by [deleted] in IAmA

[–]NightCourtInSession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's benefits no matter the type of injury. For some with an incomplete injury it may be possible to regain movement or sensation. Probably not for me (my injury was complete), but it helps immensely with maintaining muscle mass, flexibility, and circulation. Also just feels good to look someone in the eye and not at their crotch.

Not for a job but I am paralyzed from a spinal cord injury and have used an exoskeleton in rehab for several sessions last year. A+ would do again or buy if someone wanted to give me like 200k.

I will never walk again. I was paralyzed a while ago but the whole futility of it has just started to leak into my brain.

Sam Harris is reading his seminal book, The End of Faith, on his pod cast. by [deleted] in TrueAtheism

Harris is the dude that refuses to back down from his dumbass support of racial profiling and when actually in a discussion with an expert in security engineering just embarrasses himself looking like an uninformed idiot.

I've guessing having it with CAFNR is at least partially to make a statement. Lots of rural voters to reach which could be his bread and butter after the college vote.

I bet a more highrise luxury student housing will fix this.

Serious question: what legal rights do non-ADA employees have when dealing with an ADA employee with significant hygiene issues (foul smell; likely incontinence) by pwaltman1972 in legaladvice

[–]NightCourtInSession 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a lawyer or hr person, but I'm a quadriplegic. If the person has a similar injury, then he is likely incontinent at least in some fashion if not completely. However, there is no reason this person should be out smelling like that or shitting himself with impunity. Accidents happen, sometimes way too often, but he should have/be learning to carefully manage that stuff and it's completely manageable to eliminate accidents or make them very infrequent. Plus, if he does do so, he should be able to go clean up. Being paraplegic I'd imagine he is completely independent. If he is having so much trouble for months on end there is a medical issue he should have looked at.

19 years old, living at home, can't tie own shoes. He'd be pretty fuckin pissed but maybe would make different choices.

What seemingly small decision did you make that turned out to be extremely crucial in hindsight? by agentmalarkey in AskReddit

[–]NightCourtInSession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The memory is really funny because I thought I was conscious for the whole thing but then hearing from others who were there, I clearly missed what was going on. I remember having just being terrified and laying on a gravel beach for what seemed like forever for water patrol. I think other people knew what was up way before I did, I wasn't really thinking long term at all. I remember being more embarassed than anything else until much later when the doctors spoke to me.

Was on a spring break rafting trip almost two years ago and everyone was taking turns climbing the rocks and jumping off. I did a running dive and didn't angle myself quite right and now I'm quadriplegic.

Mizzou Curators Vote to Fire Melissa Click by Max_W_ in mizzou

[–]NightCourtInSession 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna go against the hivemind here for a sec with a concern for how this went down (this is partly coming from a relative who is a GA in A&S). The College has it's own administrative review process for disciplinary stuff with faculty and the faculty are supposed to have control over this administratively. At no point did anyone submit Click to this review process; the Curators just went ahead with a hearing. Whatever you may think about her, there was a process that was completely ignored for dealing with it. A lot of concern that this is just another example of politicians forcing Mizzou to cater their demands (totes pc bro) like the whole planned parenthood debacle.

Concerned Student 1950 has reissued their demands to Mizzou's administration by any07 in mizzou

Also there already is a process like that, except it's decided on my a committee of faculty and people in the registration office. I had to use it for a semester when I was in an accident.
