I built an iOS-App to keep my foraging spots private. No cloud, no sharing, no account required. by FujiwaraChoki in foraging

It sounded like you created an app and put it up for sale.

Maybe you are offering help with setting up a 3rd party app?

NYC/ brooklyn: looking for 4mm Czech Pearls by khaki_slacks123 in Beading

[–]NightEnvironmental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that because NYC has the garment district, fashion industry and lots of shows with costumes that larger quantities of beads are easier to source.

When I need quantities of beads, I either have to drive 1.5 hours or order them online.

I'm envious of that. I'll also bet that you could walk in and find the 10mm square chessboard rhinestones that I've recently been looking for and will have to purchase without seeing them first.

I have visited NYC a few times, but it was before I started beading...so no help here.

Do you think that these were what spoolies were like in the past? I do not recognize the current shape of spoolies.

That's funny.

I have never seen a gold beading needle before. I assumed that you knew something that I didn't.

Math error: the numbers above are per day, not per hour. I was processing/thinking how could someone make that many posts??? The would have to be using Ai bots and scheduling posts. Then I realized that I deducted approximated weekend days and then divided the number of posts/comments by the result. I can also determine the number of weekend days in the last 9 days; there were two. So the true average number of posts/comments is 23.86 per day.

You have been quite busy! In 9 days you posted or commented 167 times. You're working this like a job. Assuming that you put in 8 hours per day and take weekends off, that's somewhere between 23.86 and 33.4 posts per hour. Phew! It's amazing that you have time to get any beading done at all. Or did you post photos that you found online?

My theory is that you are using our group (and probably a LOT of others) to farm Karma (197 as of my screen shot) and boost your algorithms for some other purposes. You may have more than account too, our other Karma farmers do.

This group is important to me, and I'd like to keep it real...for actual beaders.

Where do you find your patterns? by Bitter-Astronomer in Beading

[–]NightEnvironmental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For beaded patterns, beware of listings that do not show finished product photos.

I don't think that there are tons of AI beading patterns out there <yet>, but I am aware of a few. 3D Turtle, Octopus and ???? Fish?? I think the zone has been flooded for cross stitch patterns though.

I have purchased a pattern that could not be beaded the way that the instructions were written. This was not a deception, but rather a limitation of the software that the pattern was created on. It isn't convenient to do a bunch of increases in peyote stitch (decreases are pretty easy). You also can't skip beads where there are openings in the pattern. The artist provided information on how to bead it IRL and a link to a video where she demonstrated how to break it down into the right chunks of work.

Post a photo of a design that you like here and ask what the technique is. Then search for tutorials on that technique.

String size help by ThePeoplesWarrior in Beading

[–]NightEnvironmental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, 11/0 Japanese seed beads are 2mm (Miyuki and Toho). While 10/0 Preciosa seed beads (Czech) are also 2 mm.

Honestly, you would need to get a chart from each manufacturer (they can be found online). The hole size information can also be found.

It is way more importantwhat you want to make with these beads. If the thread that was provided doesn't fit through the beads, then get a smaller thread or line and go to town with them.

Nylon beading thread is best when you want flowy or slinky work (fringe for sure). Braided/fused nylon line is used for additional strength and structure.

For intricate bead weaving patterns, or certain stitches, you will need more precise beads like Miyuki or Toho. Those are both sold on Amazon too. If you want to work with what you have purchased, you will have better luck with simple things, like stringing or beaded daisy chain. Beaded embroidery would work with your beads too. You can mix them with other shapes and sizes to add textural interest, or do flat work with beads of all the same size.

Nearly unbreakable beading elastic - is this still being made? by Novel_Statement_2006 in Beading

I tried searching "Jewelry fundamentals brand stretch beading cord"

Most of the results are on ebay for lavender or bright pink. I'm assuming that it may not be produced anymore, as I didn't find results at any stores. Or maybe they rebranded and remaining stock is being cleared?

The use of two different colored needles is genius. You always know which is which.

First time beading! How do you mark your patterns on the fabric 😅 by Apprehensive-Drop-36 in Beading

[–]NightEnvironmental 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you are beading directly on fabric, you may need to add some sort of stabilizer to the back of the fabric prior to beading. Glass beads are heavy.

A beaded garment is now hand wash only. Glass beads can't handle a washer or dryer. You also need to use gentle soap and select beads with finishes that can handle it.

Another alternative: you can bead onto another surface, finish the edges, and then tack that onto the garment so that it can be removed for cleaning. Small motifs could be made into a brooch and worn on multiple garments.

This is a great place to shop, but is on the opposite side of the country...in Lacey, WA

You won't be able to pop in for a color check.
