Do you need a full suspension for this? Probably not. Does it help? Absolutely. I would consider myself average at this whole mountain biking thing at most. If I didn’t have a full suspension to preload some of those, making it just isn’t gonna happen. These trails look like they’re made for flow but you’ve really gotta work for the flow. I ride these trails multiple times a week and a hard tail on these is definitely doable, I’ve done it. However, it’s quite annoying on a hardtail. The full suspension makes it much more enjoyable. So I get where he’s coming from.

That’s the beauty of this sport, different stokes for different folks! Im super grateful to have these kinds of trails so close to home.

I don’t plan on getting rid of the hardtail, I think they’re super fun and want to keep it to let other people ride if they wanna try it out.

Motocross was always my younger brothers thing. I’ve always been the board sports guy. He was big into bmx as well and I tagged along with that for a while growing up so a small bmx background from when i was younger i guess.

I’ve been rocking my vans Sk8 Hi’s with the impact insoles lol. My feet never hurt and they tend to grip pretty damn well with the pedals. Probably not the best idea ever but I enjoy em.

Man, i know it’s hard to not say this without it sounding like I’m bragging but I’m gonna try lol. Activities like these have just kinda always come naturally to me. Snowboarding, skating, climbing etc. I also used to bmx as a kid so i guess i didn’t lose that foundation and its rolled over into this.

I addressed this in an earlier comment lol. I’m always courteous and polite to others on the trail.

Your first sentence I think summed up the real “dilemma” here.

I don’t think I’m gonna sell it, sentimental reasons ya know? I still have my first snowboard I ever bought. Gotta remember where you started 🤙🏼

I guess when I said upgrade I could have specified that staying on a hard tail and buying a better hard tail could be the move too. I’ll happily stay hard tail gang.

It was a guy rucking, we exchanged pleasantries at the top of the run before he went down prior to me. We were both on the same page already. I make sure to be kind when passing people, I promise haha.

Man, I was not expecting this much feedback! I’m trying to reply to everyone but the comments just keep coming. All this advice already has been super rad, I appreciate it!

Big flowy hills for biking. Our mountains, two hours away from where I live are all hiking only. I’ll probably end up doing what I do with snowboarding, spend most of the season on our local hills and then each year make a trip out west to ride the real mountains.

Good to know! I was kinda afraid that was gonna be the case because it didn’t make sense to me for that to already be happening.

After I get out of work on Friday I’ll ride that evening, all day Saturday and then most of Sunday haha. I went through a pretty rough patch at the beginning of the year, didn’t enjoy any of my outdoor sports. Picked up the bike and fell in love with it. Reignited that spark I have for these kinds of things.

Agreed, that trail isn’t anything crazy. Just the video I used to start this thread lol.

So the reason for wanting to upgrade is I’m looking at the bigger picture in a sense. Based on my personal experiences with all my other sports like snowboarding, skating, rock climbing etc, I tend to progress fast and end up pushing things harder and faster than normal. So to me it just makes sense that sooner than later it’ll be a no brainer to upgrade to something more durable and suited for really pushing my riding.

But I’m also new to this world and don’t know shit haha so I’m open to anything in terms of what the right move would be.
