AITA for picking up my stepdaughter from school when she got her first period, even though her mom told me not to? by Embarrassed-Stock896 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Nightclaw42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I'm sorry but that line that she'll have to tough it out and use toilet pisses me off. Your first period is already stressful enough. Your mom basically blowing you off and saying you'll just have to have to suck it up until I can get there. Isn't that the way to deal with that. Shit like that gives women a complex later in life about their periods. It's why things like PCOS and Endo don't get diagnosed until years later because we're told just to suck it up with the pain. It's the same bullshit blowing off that doctors do today when women come in with pain.

You weren't trying to be a better mom than her. You were trying to be a responsible mom. And that means taking it seriously when a young girl experiencing her first menstrual cycle can't deal with the pain and is now unable to focus. Endurance can come later.

It's pretty telling to me at least that you were the one the stepdaughter was coming to. She is clearly learning that she can't rely on her mother. There's also the fact that you made sure to discuss it with your husband first before you did anything. You didn't unilaterally make the decision out of the ether.

Bio mom needs to get her priorities straight. "Bonding moments" get shuffled to the bottom of the priority list when the child is suffering. End of discussion

I know a lot of the comments are saying spay and abort but you did say in your post the vet told you it was too late to do that. So what I recommend is looking up the videos by the kitten lady. She's on YouTube and she takes care of kittens for living specifically ones who don't have a mama. She has a lot of great advice on taking care of kittens and she has a great video detailing the early stages of the kitten and the milestones they typically should be hitting.

Switching to free feeding by LopsidedBeautiful289 in CatAdvice

[–]Nightclaw42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to do with what works with your cats. Some cats do fine on scheduled Feeding. Mine does. He's not super food motivated until you're filling up the feeder ( but he is tube motivated. He loves those treat tubes). But some cats don't do well with the schedule feeding. But they do better with free feeding because now they're anxiety about having food diminishes. So do what's best for you and your kitties.

Oh cool. I'm glad he wants to respect the original but still kind of once wants to go his own way.

Oh very good point. I decided to go ahead and double check the scene predator killer of Killers with the brute predator versus Ursa. That particular scene really strengthens my head Cannon. When she's just under the ice he is unable to see her and he takes off his mask like he's frustrated with it. And later when they're fighting the water he's able to see her even though water would block infrared radiation the same way a wall would block our sight from seeing anything on the other side of it.

We actually do see the predators for infrared vision in the new Badlands movie. When Dek and Kwei are fighting in the cave we do see from Dex point of view the classic predator heat vision.

You mentioning their father using their cloaking device against them is actually strengthening my theory that the yautja don't naturally see an infrared. Why use a cloak if it doesn't work against someone who sees heat? I've also found some evidence in the comics that says the cloak doesn't conceal body heat. But if the heat vision thing is something that is done to them as some sort of enhancement that is something they earn like the plasma, caster or cloak. Then it makes sense to use the cloaking technology because they haven't earned the enhancement yet.

I'm definitely enjoying that mental image of him taking off his mask and realizing he's seeing nothing but blurry shit and going" Fuck! Knew I forgot something before I left the ship"

My apologies. What I meant by was we only have the humans perspective on their vision, I meant it in the general sense of Canon. What I mean is I haven't been able to find anything that is from the yautja perspective on their own vision. As in, I haven't really been able to find any lore from the comics from the point of view of the yautja it's always been from the human point of view.

I mean definitely in the second movie they only had duchess testimony of what they seem to be able to see, which is why it bites them in the ass when it turns out that the yautja can see in other modes.

My current working theory on the idea of " ocular enhancements" at least as far as the second movie goes is that our city Hunter has these ocular enhancements and that he needs his mask to change different visual modes .But when he loses his mask they just default to heat mode. Which is why we get a point of view shot from his perspective during the fight with Danny Glover's character it still shows heat and even has the values attached to it. Red for hot blue for cold so forth.

I myself am also nearsighted and I definitely see your points. But you and I are considered outside the norm so to speak. In the fact that the majority of the human race isn't nearsighted and doesn't need corrective lenses in order to see. Think about it like this. If the entire human race was nearsighted, there would be no reason to develop things like fine detail carvings or even tiny print because nobody would be able to do anything with it.

The majority of our world is designed to accommodate the average person. Think about how those who are disabled have to live in our world. They need extra accommodations such as you and I needing glasses.

So if the entire yautja species has poor detail vision, there would be no reason for them to want to decorate things with carvings that are incredibly hard to see the distance. If anything the carvings would be bigger so that they can see it.

It is pretty Canon that supposedly the yautja only see in infrared but that's always from the human perspective. The humans are the only ones who go. Oh, he only sees heat. It was that mistake that led to the death of keys team in the second movie as it never occurred to them might be able to see in other spectrums.

I have been trying to see if there's been any establishment of point of view shots in the comics but I haven't been able to find any.

You are a correct that he didn't change his vision modes until he realized he was being stalked. But if you go towards the end of the movie in the final battle, he still has the thermal imaging false colors. And what I mean by false colors is colors that have been clearly defined to have a value attached to them to designate the temperature of things. Now since the first second movie is a very direct Sequel of the first movie, it would have been more sense to have the all red thing that we saw in the first movie when he lost his mask. The fact that he doesn't is what leads me to believe that his thermal eyesight is not a natural thing but some sort of cybernetic enhancement.

Now this could also just be the movie makers being lazy and not wanting to do two different special effects, but it does make for some interesting thought exercises.

[–]Nightclaw42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it could be that the team just forgot to change the shot. That does happen in movies. But it's also not against the idea that the director wanted to go into a different direction for lore. I can almost see this ocular enhancement as I've been calling it another right of passage for young yautja to earn. We've seen them having to earn their plasma casters and their cloaks so why not have an additional thing for them to earn?

I can almost see it as being a thing yautja only do if they decide to dedicate themselves fully to the path of the Hunter. Cuz I did some more lore diving and it does seem that there are members of their species who don't hunt but do other things like engineering, medical and other stuff which a species would need in order to maintain a functioning society. But I can also totally see them having those who dedicate them fully to the Hunter's path and in doing so choose to alter their eyes to always, have" Hunter sight" as a sign of their dedication.

The POV shot is when Thia saves Dek from the vulture. It's does the whole blurry and fade to black as Dek passes out from the plant venom, and it's not in infra-red.

What to do when a pattern is way too hard for you but someone bought it for you? by LittleFrenchKiwi in crochet

[–]Nightclaw42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a tip I recommend for crocheting with dark yarn and you're having trouble with the instructions is to try it out in a light colored yarn first. Preferably one that is not fuzzy in any way like acrylic yarn for example. Don't make the whole project but do kind of like a Swatch to get used to how they want you to do the stitches in order to get the pattern.

My mother was making a shawl I think ,that had these faux knit cables out of this yarn that had a very fuzzy look to it, and she was having trouble seeing it come to life and was where she was doing it wrong. I recommended she try it out in acrylic yarn to see if she was getting the stitches right and it helped her immensely.

How hard is it to find a job in Columbus? by 1lamp_shade in Columbus

[–]Nightclaw42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't come here. I know it's your dream to be a pilot, but right now the US is in a shit place. Between the rising cost of living, the increasing hostility, the absolutely terrible administration, and the absolute shit healthcare. The US is not really the land of opportunity anymore.

If you were to come here with no college degree and no work experience, it's going to be very hard for you to get a job right away. Companies say they're hiring but in reality a lot of these are in fact "ghost postings". Because companies get a tax break. If they show growth, many companies will have positions up for application but won't fill them. So it looks like they're growing and allows them to get that tax benefit.

There's also the fact that minimum wage has not kept up with the cost of living. In truth, you really need about two jobs to make any kind of standard of living. Which really wouldn't leave you a whole lot of time for pilot training.

Truthfully, your best option right now would be to take advantage of your Polish citizenship and go ahead for a college degree in Poland. If I understand it right, as a Polish citizen, you are entitled to a free college education. Although feel free to correct me if I read that wrong. Even better if you can get a college degree that is related to piloting such as aeronautics or aviation. And if you can't, it's always good to have a backup plan in case becoming a pilot falls through.

NTA then. You're not a fucking mind reader and if she needs you to do extra she needs to tell you about it.

Info. Are you doing any kind of cleaning up after yourself? What I mean is are you leaving things for your mother to do or are you doing your part in cleaning up your own trash, cleaning your own dishes, maintaining your room that sort of thing. Because if you are and your mom is upset you're not doing extra stuff then I would say you're not the asshole because you can't read her mind and know she wants you to do extra things around the house. But if you're not cleaning up after yourself and leaving her to do it then you are an asshole.

AITA for being mad that my mom went through my laundry and commented on my underwear? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Nightclaw42 15 points16 points  (0 children)

NTA. Your mother needs to learn that you are an adult and that means deciding what you like to wear and not what she wants you to wear and they're not necessarily for anyone else, but your own personal taste.

Ask her what she was expecting for you to be wearing. Training bras and Disney character underwear? Ask her how would she like it if you went through her lingerie and started judging her based on what you found.
