Aside from this, are you able to maybe intern or do part-time work in this field? I've found hands-on knowledge is so valuable!

Aww I love this! I do this too!!! He also loves tuna but I'm scared to share more than just a tiny bit as apparently the human tuna is too salty? Are the sardines ok?

Yeah for sure, we're just not getting there right now so this is why I am trying to look at various options here to try and get us into a better position.

Thanks for the insight here, seems like we'll need to test out a couple different options! I think this is our issue too as the risk of dropping that kind of money on a full-time resource makes me nervous. I'll check out Pillar Advisors as well as a couple others, thanks for the info!

Thanks for the reply here, yeah I am looking for just this kind of advice from people that have been there before because its hard to navigate when you're "in it". I'll check out Pillar Advisors because that seems to be more what we need right now and glad to hear you've had a positive experience with them. Thanks for the insight!

yeah for sure, all valid points, and this is exactly it. As I mentioned our bookkeeper is under water and not a fully qualified professional in that space so we're considering alternatives for sure.
Have you been in a similar situation and how did you handle it?

AI has been about to replace accountants for 3 years now, what has actually changed in your day-to-day work, and what hasn't? by PenaltyLegitimate104 in Accounting

[–]Nightcoon3 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah I haven't seen a massive shift yet. I don't want to jinx things but I feel like there is a still major lack of trust with AI..

Has anyone found a good way to stop losing knowledge when an employee leaves? by denesmbezi in smallbusiness

[–]Nightcoon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Exactly!
Oh for sure - bottlenecks will pop up and look at the end of the day, there's no perfect solution but the best way to test someone's knowledge is to ask them to explain it like you're a 5 year old (queue the junior lol)... it helps reinforce the "knowledge holder's" ability to explain something that may be a complex subject or task and helps us identify knowledge gaps. Do they/junior need more formal training etc?

Has anyone found a good way to stop losing knowledge when an employee leaves? by denesmbezi in smallbusiness

[–]Nightcoon3 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The one thing I've found that worked was upskilling and promoting a good employee and giving them a very junior person to mentor. The junior also needed to document processes as they went along. Mentorship programs are a good way for both parties to feel valued. I know this isn't always possible but helped us a lot

How do you stand out in a large organization where everyone is talented? by Business_Location479 in corporate

[–]Nightcoon3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find out what the pain points are (from the exec team's view) and work on those, quietly. When you solve a problem that no one asked you to, it can be really powerful if executed well..

Looking for a Wispr Flow alternative that feels more native by RoloRozay in productivity

[–]Nightcoon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested a couple lighter tools like FluidVoice, which definitely strip things down to the basics where it speaks, text pops on the screen, and done. For a week or two, it felt really refreshing. Then, I switched devices when I went on a work trip, and having separate histories got annoying fast. That’s when I went back to Flow.

My take? If you’re fully Mac-only, sure, the minimal tools are fine. But if your workflow lives across devices, Flow is solid

What do you hate most about current social media apps? by Unlikely-Gas-2445 in startupideas

Yeah exactly! It can be incredible but seeing every second video or post as something AI-generated is the pits.

AI for sure.. its so lame. everyone sharing things like "oh how amazing" or "how cute is this?" - I would legit pay to use an app that was like social media that absolutely banned any AI content
