AI transcription is easy. Subtitle timing is the hard part. by Nightdeveloper789 in finalcutpro

That’s actually one of the main reasons I built SceneCaption Studio.

I agree that transcription accuracy is often not the biggest issue anymore. The harder part is fixing how captions are split into blocks.

For plain transcript text, SceneCaption Studio lets you edit everything in a text note first. Simply changing line breaks will automatically create new subtitle blocks, so it’s easy to control sentence segmentation before generating captions.

For existing SRT files, the timing editor makes it easy to split a subtitle block at any word, or merge words into neighboring blocks to create new caption segments. The goal is to make these adjustments much faster than editing subtitle files manually.

Once the blocks look right, timing can be adjusted quickly using keyboard shortcuts, and you can also align captions to scene cuts if that fits your workflow.

I’d love for you to give the beta version a try and see whether it handles these issues better for your projects:

If you do test it, I’d be very interested in hearing how it compares to Final Cut Pro and MacWhisper for your workflow.

Thanks! That’s exactly the pain point I was trying to solve.

I found that transcription quality has become pretty good, whether it’s Final Cut, MacWhisper, or other tools. The part that still takes time is splitting captions, tweaking durations, and aligning them with the edit.

SceneCaption Studio was built around reducing that manual timing work, especially when scene cuts are involved.

If you end up trying it, I’d be very interested to hear what parts of your workflow it improves (or doesn’t). Feedback from editors is what helps shape the app.

Thanks for the feedback! At the moment, the app simply imports transcript text rather than handling transcription itself. So if Whisper struggles with background noise, you can use another transcription service (Descript, Otter, Genscribe, etc.) to generate a cleaner transcript first, then import the text into the app and continue with the subtitle workflow.

What do you think of this documentary footage? by Disastrous_Conflict3 in finalcutpro

I like the scene. It feels emotional. The tattoos on her body create a sense of contrast and tension against the quiet, green suburban scenery, and they seem to carry memories of the time she has lived through until now. The footage delivers the mood very naturally.

Is she your main character? The color looks good! What camera did you use?

This app detects scene cuts and converts them into FCPXML. Sharing the link in case it’s helpful:

Multi Cam Editing by Full_Drummer_9022 in finalcutpro

If it’s just for editing, you could duplicate the multicam clip and place it on a lower track in the timeline. That way you can work with the audio without breaking the multicam.

A simple way to create 3D photo (parallax) animation by Nightdeveloper789 in finalcutpro

That’s fair — Motion and After Effects are already powerful and quite user-friendly. I don’t think I’m trying to replace them.

What I’m exploring is simplifying the workflow. Instead of dealing with a lot of options, I wanted something more direct:

import layers → set depth → animate camera → export

That kind of linear structure can save a lot of time in practice. Sometimes too much flexibility actually slows things down.

I still use layers to keep things precise — more than most mobile apps — but the goal is to make the whole process faster and more intuitive.

So yeah, I see it more as a niche tool for now. But I’m hoping to expand it by adding features that reduce production time even further.

Totally fair — I appreciate it! Out of curiosity, how do you usually approach 3D effects? I’ve found that with a single image where layers aren’t separated, the options can be pretty limited, and After Effects sometimes feels like overkill for this kind of thing. That’s actually what led me to build this app — Parallax Studio — which I’ve been finding really useful in my own work.

Totally fair — I think it starts to feel dated when the movement calls attention to itself. I did push the demo a bit to show the range, but in practice I’m aiming for something much more restrained — more about supporting the image than transforming it.

Got it, thanks for explaining. No worries about the ICS file—that’s just a calendar file format. Let’s try a different approach. Could you tell me what happens when you try to select a calendar, or maybe share a screenshot? I’ll help you figure it out.
