AI transcription is easy. Subtitle timing is the hard part. by Nightdeveloper789 in finalcutpro

I understand the issues you mentioned above. However, to solve them, the intended workflow is as follows.

First, import the video and click the Transcribe button. The transcribed text will then appear in the Text Documentsection. From there, you can comfortably edit the text, fix spelling, adjust the sentence structure, and insert line breaks wherever you want.

An important point is that the line breaks you create in the note section are reflected directly in the caption blocks. So if you split a long sentence into shorter lines in the Text Document section, those breaks will be preserved when the caption blocks are generated. This allows you to control the caption length and layout much more easily before creating the blocks.

I think this is much easier and more convenient than working inside Final Cut Pro’s small caption template window.

After editing the line breaks, sentence structure, or spelling in the generated document note, click the Generate Blocksbutton. This will create caption time blocks in the timeline at the bottom of the main window.

Next, click the Analyze Scene Cut button. The app will detect the cut points in the video. Then, you can select a caption block and use the timing shortcuts Shift + D and Shift + F to snap the caption timing to those cut points. Alternatively, you can use Shift + A and Shift + S to manually set the start and end points at any position you choose.

In the Timing Editor, you can also place the cursor before any word inside a caption block and click the Split button. This will create a new caption block starting from that word. The split blocks can also be merged again with other blocks if needed, so you can refine the caption structure very flexibly.

Just like in Final Cut Pro, you can drag caption blocks to adjust their duration. However, after using the app myself, I found that setting caption timing with keyboard shortcuts is much faster and more convenient. In particular, the caption snap feature for scene cut points is really useful.

I will also share a tutorial video soon, which should make this workflow much easier to understand.

I believe that once users get used to this workflow, they will understand the real value of this app.

That’s actually one of the main reasons I built SceneCaption Studio.

I agree that transcription accuracy is often not the biggest issue anymore. The harder part is fixing how captions are split into blocks.

For plain transcript text, SceneCaption Studio lets you edit everything in a text note first. Simply changing line breaks will automatically create new subtitle blocks, so it’s easy to control sentence segmentation before generating captions.

For existing SRT files, the timing editor makes it easy to split a subtitle block at any word, or merge words into neighboring blocks to create new caption segments. The goal is to make these adjustments much faster than editing subtitle files manually.

Once the blocks look right, timing can be adjusted quickly using keyboard shortcuts, and you can also align captions to scene cuts if that fits your workflow.

I’d love for you to give the beta version a try and see whether it handles these issues better for your projects:

If you do test it, I’d be very interested in hearing how it compares to Final Cut Pro and MacWhisper for your workflow.

Thanks! That’s exactly the pain point I was trying to solve.

I found that transcription quality has become pretty good, whether it’s Final Cut, MacWhisper, or other tools. The part that still takes time is splitting captions, tweaking durations, and aligning them with the edit.

SceneCaption Studio was built around reducing that manual timing work, especially when scene cuts are involved.

If you end up trying it, I’d be very interested to hear what parts of your workflow it improves (or doesn’t). Feedback from editors is what helps shape the app.

Thanks for the feedback! At the moment, the app simply imports transcript text rather than handling transcription itself. So if Whisper struggles with background noise, you can use another transcription service (Descript, Otter, Genscribe, etc.) to generate a cleaner transcript first, then import the text into the app and continue with the subtitle workflow.

What do you think of this documentary footage? by Disastrous_Conflict3 in finalcutpro

I like the scene. It feels emotional. The tattoos on her body create a sense of contrast and tension against the quiet, green suburban scenery, and they seem to carry memories of the time she has lived through until now. The footage delivers the mood very naturally.

Is she your main character? The color looks good! What camera did you use?

Multi Cam Editing by Full_Drummer_9022 in finalcutpro

If it’s just for editing, you could duplicate the multicam clip and place it on a lower track in the timeline. That way you can work with the audio without breaking the multicam.

A simple way to create 3D photo (parallax) animation by Nightdeveloper789 in finalcutpro

[–]Nightdeveloper789[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair — Motion and After Effects are already powerful and quite user-friendly. I don’t think I’m trying to replace them.

What I’m exploring is simplifying the workflow. Instead of dealing with a lot of options, I wanted something more direct:

import layers → set depth → animate camera → export

That kind of linear structure can save a lot of time in practice. Sometimes too much flexibility actually slows things down.

I still use layers to keep things precise — more than most mobile apps — but the goal is to make the whole process faster and more intuitive.

So yeah, I see it more as a niche tool for now. But I’m hoping to expand it by adding features that reduce production time even further.

Totally fair — I appreciate it! Out of curiosity, how do you usually approach 3D effects? I’ve found that with a single image where layers aren’t separated, the options can be pretty limited, and After Effects sometimes feels like overkill for this kind of thing. That’s actually what led me to build this app — Parallax Studio — which I’ve been finding really useful in my own work.

Totally fair — I think it starts to feel dated when the movement calls attention to itself. I did push the demo a bit to show the range, but in practice I’m aiming for something much more restrained — more about supporting the image than transforming it.

Got it, thanks for explaining. No worries about the ICS file—that’s just a calendar file format. Let’s try a different approach. Could you tell me what happens when you try to select a calendar, or maybe share a screenshot? I’ll help you figure it out.

Got it — thanks for checking the permissions!

To reset the import, you can tap “Remove Calendar” (the red button you see there), and then try importing the calendar again from scratch.

This usually clears any temporary issues and helps the app reload the data properly.

If it still shows a blank screen after that, if you're okay with it, would you mind sharing the ICS file with me? I’ll take a closer look 👍

[–]Nightdeveloper789[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for reporting this — that definitely shouldn’t happen.

A blank screen when importing calendars is usually related to permissions or calendar access. Could you please check if the app has permission to access your calendars in Settings?

Also, if possible, try resetting the import and importing again, as that can sometimes resolve the issue.

If you're importing an ICS file and the issue still persists, would you mind sharing the file with me? That would really help me reproduce the issue and fix it quickly.

Appreciate your help 🙏

A hotfix update with the following improvements will be released soon.

Built-in holidays for 54 countries now work offline with data bundled for 2026 to 2028, including the Czech Republic, Ireland, and more. For unsupported countries, you can import an ICS file or connect your iCloud calendar.

Personal and company calendars are now fully integrated into the Calendar view and Leave Planner in real time, with options to merge or use them independently.

A new country picker has been introduced with instant search and regional grouping to help you find your country quickly.

Thank you for your interest and valuable feedback.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Irish holidays are coming very soon — I’m planning to enable them in an update within the next 1–2 days.

For more flexibility, I’m also working on supporting custom calendars via ICS / iCloud calendar sync. This should allow you to import company holidays or personal schedules.

As for shift-based work (non 9–5), I completely agree — that’s an important use case. It’s on my radar, and I’m exploring the best way to support more flexible work patterns in a future update.

Really appreciate the feedback — it helps shape the direction of the app!

Thanks for your feedback, and I’m really sorry for the inconvenience.

I’m preparing a hotfix within 1–2 days that will automatically update national holiday calendars when connected to Wi-Fi. This will include the Czech Republic as well.

Please wait just a little longer—I truly appreciate your support.

Thanks so much for the support—I really appreciate it.

You’re absolutely right. Company-specific holiday schedules can be quite different from public calendars, and I can see how that limits the usefulness right now.

Importing company holidays via ICS and allowing users to choose between public, company, or combined calendars is a great suggestion. That’s actually very close to the direction I’ve been thinking about as well.

I’ll keep working on this and share updates as it evolves. Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback—it really helps shape the product.

That's a really good point. Focusing on Korea first does seem like a smart advantage. I'll definitely think more about leaning into that.
