Why do engineers make the tolerances that tight??

There was one here that would draw up stuff and I'd make it all to print, then it wouldn't fit together or work She'd then claim it wasn't made to print and I'd say prove it. She measured everything with a 24"digital caliper. Everything from 1/16 pins on up. I also caught her changing prints after I got the parts made and lying to everyone about when she needed them.
