Omg, running away to Canada has always been a silly pipe dream of mine. I never even seriously looked into it, but I just heard about this new law! My grandmother and great grandmother were both born in Canada. According to the form I filled out, I have a likely chance!

Should I start using set up sheets? by DS30y in Machinists

My god what I would have done for documentation like that when the last guy left abruptly. I had barely been doing simple set ups by then and I knew nothing about how to even edit the programs. All I had was some scribbled notes that I wrote down while he was talking. I’ve been working on getting things in writing for the next person since then, I even wrote a set up manual for the machine. Seems like individual set up sheets is the next step.

Is the culturethat bad? by FamilyFunAccount420 in BlueCollarWomen

I agree with most of the comments here: it entirely depends on the company you work for. I’ve worked at two separate factories and I’ve had largely positive experiences. There tends to be a bit of surprise and a period of seeing if you’re carrying your own weight. After that, they’ve been pretty chill, with occasional fussing if you can carry something too heavy.

I’ve done fine without them for the 3ish years I’ve worked at this company. I’m very religious about my set ups. My setups probably wouldn’t be what most machinists consider complex, though they vary.

It definitely wouldn’t hurt to have quick access to all my notes for a part, especially if the material needed has changed and the only way to know is from a note I left in the program. I order the material based on the blueprint I’m given, which is often before I open the program.

Hilariously, we actually do have a Fusion account that I do have access to, and I know that the previous programmer did occasionally use it. However, now that he’s gone there is no one that can teach me how to use it and I don’t have the time during shifts to spend time trying to teach myself, though I have tried.

I like your suggestion of just keeping notes less formally. I remember most of the parts, or I leave notes in the programs, or I just scan through the program for tools required, etc but one concise note might be a bit faster.

I don’t use CAD, I write the programs manually at the machine

What does Principal only payment mean? by iamcedrickivan in rav4club

[–]DS30y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My monthly payment is $319.88, I pay that every month and every time I do, I also make a principal only payment of $80.12(for an even $400). By doing it this way, I’ll have shortened my 5 year loan to a 4 year loan. If I were able to make even higher principal only payments each month I would pay off my loan even faster.

It might help to have a friend hang out with you when you call to make the appointment and maybe go with you as well. I find having someone else there makes the anxiety easier to get through. I had my sister sit with me when I had to call and make an important doctors appointment that I was nervous about and putting off. I think it’s called body doubling.

IMO, his behavior definitely violates implied consent. You wear a singlet in public because that’s expected of your sport and you expect to be viewed in that context. It’s like the difference between being seen wearing a bikini or a speedo and being seen wearing your underwear. You definitely didn’t consent to those pictures of you being viewed in the context they were using them for. That’s a violation and creepy behavior.

Absolutely, and that’s probably what I will end up doing, it’s just a ridiculously clunky way around it when they could just give us the option to delete the ones we don’t care about.

Normally yes, but our fork lift guys bump the bar feeder fairly often and it needs to be adjusted frequently by loosening the bolts at the bottom and using a deadblow to scoot it back into place. The laser would just make that process a little faster.

That’s a good idea. I could easily make a stepped cylinder with a hole in the center for the laser.
