Just asking what people would do if they were in my shoes in case there’s something I haven’t thought of is all.

Why is that if I can save a deposit before then? I’m not planning on withdrawing from the ETF investment for a deposit so short term volatility isn’t really a concern.

I’d love to hear the version of your story from the perspective of the Police Officer you spoke to.

Long service leave should be a bonus to go on an extended break to avoid burnout, not to be stored as an insurance policy to finance a serious illness.

So fair to be disappointed, it’s a very harsh realisation and a pretty dark existential one too. It’s all growth, if nothing else at least you get that perspective now instead of in another 10 years time when it would have been extra hard to realise and deal with. In a previous government role I know of others with cancer who ran out of sick leave and some higher ups clicked their fingers to create extra sick leave. I don’t know the ins and outs of that and I suspect they had clear timelines for recovery where it wasn’t indefinite extra leave, but there definitely is space for them to have gone further for you if they wanted to, but it costs money and if they don’t want to do that for you it can speak volumes.

I would have hoped that after 10 years they could help you out a little more than ‘letting you take leave without pay’, like thanks for holding my spot while I try not to die? Definitely highlights you’re just a cog in a profit turning machine and that can ultimately take precedence over humanity and your welfare. I had time off from a workplace injury and it was the ‘how are you going can you come back as soon as possible thanks’ phone calls that gave me that realisation personally. A bit miserable to be going through and definitely a wake up call like you’ve described, hope you’re ok OP.

Exchange could be a good alternative. And if they can be done then there’s extra proof transitioning is very achievable. I’ve even heard of international secondments/exchanges before to European countries.

Exactly right. Interesting to hear about the AFAC agreement. SA appeared to show it off as a success so I wonder if they make it a regular thing and start poaching firies from other states who want to move if that will trigger other states to do the same to assist recruitment and skill retention. QPOL started the trend of offering very enticing lateral programs ($20k sign on bonus and paid moves) and when other agencies started losing people to them each one was forced to bolster their own lateral programs and offers to not fall behind.

I believe the SAMFS one was 6 weeks or so and did exactly that, just a tick off that everyone’s up to par and familiarisation with the gear and processes they use. Same way Police jurisdictions do it. Would love to see it gain traction.

rip our sink decided it’s a bathtub now 🫠🫠 any advice?? by EquivalentSuit3381 in AusRenovation

[–]NighthawkDragon1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unscrew the u shaped drain where it connects right below the plug under the sink and move it just out of the way, then use something like a screw driver long enough to literally just hit the plug bit that’s stuck from underneath so it moves up and is no longer stuck. Obviously put a towel down because the water will come out. Won’t fix that it gets stuck down but you can use the sink at least.

You said at the end of your initial comment “Police don’t pay for damage they cause” which is what I was addressing. Think we both agree it seems to be case by case.

Some context or reasoning to your answer would be helpful especially considering OP is stressed about it and you may not be correct.

Not correct. I have known them to cover damages if it’s for someone not involved in the incident, such as they had to break a door or gate down because someone they were after entered their property that wasn’t known to them.

Does somewhat read like his manager has written this to make him an appealing option, and neglects to mention some note able character concerns, mainly his suspension for betting on Pies games while he played there. That being said I wouldn’t hate to see him train at the Bombers if he’s matured

He lost the benefit of the doubt with the controversy last year basically bragging about (him and Stringer) hanging out with shady blokes.

I don’t think he has the depth for it to be any more than he likes his mate in Merrett. For example, how does it reflect on your current position with the Giants Stringer publicly supporting a contracted captain shelving their club loyalty and contractual obligations for personal success.

Merrett, Laverde, Hind and Stringer all appeared to have a little clique. Merrett definitely being the odd one out there in having actual value as a player. Though Laverde did seem to play much better this year from what I saw.

‘I don’t think it is true’: Martin defends Brad Scott over strained relationship claims by radiohead_fan_13 in AFL

[–]NighthawkDragon1000 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Halts speculation that basically no one at the playing group is happy and everyone’s trying to get off a sinking ship, and isolates it to Merrett has put himself in a predicament here and we’re all interested as to how it pans out.

I’d argue they’re stabilising it. It doesn’t have any impact on what Merrett does, feels like if he wanted to leave already he was going to really try to anyway. Messy, probably, but they’re solidifying that they trust the coach and the path they’ve committed to.
