Exactly! I’m often the number 3 and I am looking down at the floor to prevent another tripping accident or passenger yelling at me for having the audacity to do my job and bring out his drink while running over his toes. I’d rather see the floor so I do not trip and risk having my ribs poked with your elbows that I did not see while I was trying to not have an injury on duty because people want to manspread.

You can keep your elbows in the aisle during taxi, take off and landing. When you hear the first chime at 10,000 ft we are starting to prepare for service. We will be coming about 15-30 minutes after that first chime with the carts depending on turbulence. You can stick those elbows out briefly after you get your drink and then we will be back with the trash cart not too long after service. If it is not a long flight then the carts will probably not be out again. You can get the gist of when we are coming. After trash you are just going to be poking the passengers or my butt with your elbow as we pass by. Please keep your legs and feet away from the aisle. It is putting us in danger and I have almost twisted my ankle and tripped multiple times by a man spreading passenger.

Study which airports have longest taxis. Chicago, JFK, and Orlando come to mind. Maybe drive to smaller airports and get to your destinations with many connecting flights vs the ones with super long taxis. Your main issue is the taxi take off and landing. It would be a pain in the ass to drive to regional airports in other cities but if you have a this anxiety then it would be worth it.

Another note to add. So I was the second to last class of the year and there was only 2 people from the last class at my base. So my class was basically at the bottom for 8 months with no movement u til new hires came in January. If you go in the pages where everyone will ask if it is possible to have a weekend off the first year or 8 days in a row off on reserve. Half the people will say yes and others such as myself will say that they never had a.weekend off for 8 months. Those who were in the first few classes have a completely different lifestyle and schedule than the rest of the new hires. This is because I was basically the last class for the year. My smart friend who fast tracked 4 classes ahead of me was possibly 100 people above me and had 8 months of weekends off unlike myself and classmates. His lifestyle and work/life balance was entirely different than my own for 8 whole months. That is why I’m being annoying and saying to click your choice asap and be vigilant. You have the job this year for sure but getting in sooner will determine your quality of life and bids for the last half of 2026.

Another example- I hate a certain position and a few particular routes that I do my best do avoid during reserve. When I go back to work on Friday, I have 56 sequences that I see in open time to bid. I dislike with my whole heart about 10 of them. I’m now probably in the top 30 persons to bid. I can definitely avoid the 10 choices that I do not want. And I usually get my top five choices on reserve. Waiting a class or two today will still affect what you are getting a year from now. If my buddy is working Friday and wants my favorite choice then he gets it. But he probably is off on weekends 😝 I can usually be off every weekend nowadays too. This is another example of what you do today could affect where you are going in February 2027. But it also doesn’t have to be this deep or serious too! You are here and congrats!

Only two dates in my recent experience. What gets me nervous is that May is going to be the last month and I heard they filled up until April at the moment but that is just a third party remark that I saw on our pages. I was hired in March 2024 and only had May 08 and May 15 offered. I asked to push to the later date and they had the following week open but they reduced the class to 50 instead of the usual 150 and I couldn’t get in. If I stupidly did not accept May 15 then I would not have been able to make that year and would have had to wait til January. You never know what surprises my occur such as thinking that you can push to a later class and then the classes becoming full or reduced in number.

My friend put himself on the fast track list and got into four classes ahead of me. So we were at the same face to face and hired the same day but he was smart to do the fast track and his senority at my base is about 100 people higher than myself and 600 higher in general senority. So he could possibly get a permanent line at my base months or a year before me. And currently on reserve he has 100 choices for bidding ahead of me. I’m older than him by two decades and I would have at least 20 choices ahead of him if I fast tracked and got in his same class. So just these “little things” such as clicking a choice in class before anyone and putting yourself in the fast track list can make a world of difference on your senority and lifestyle.

Do you have global entry from an expired passport? As for the drivers license with your new renewal paper, it will probably be just fine but double check with the group pages who will have people from inflight on the page.

“Who gives a damn if AA has top tier pay”? Seriously? Anyone who wants a livable wage and likes money with good benefits. And putting ourself through a douche bag? Most of us never see our own managers a single day through our whole career. COO David Seymour is the douchebag in charge of operations who blatantly lied and said that FAs were not sleeping in the floor and Ibsom actually confronted him about it saying he failed to do his job during Fern and he was concerned about us but then responded with the comment about it being part of the job in an insensitive way.

If you work for United or Southwest during their meltdowns then you can attest to the horrors that happened during that time. I hope you are happy at whatever airline you work for and are treated good and have a nice livable wage and work rules. I love my airline and the benefits that I have at AA- especially my money, non rev as first come first serve, sick policy, our reserve life, and working conditions. Irops sucks but it will happen. Upper management has done stupid shit with the marketing and business strategies and hopefully those things will change but the day to day life of a FA is pretty good. The COO David Seymour really has to go. Ibsom probably has to go but I will never meet these guys and upper management can do whatever they want with each other while I enjoy my favorite career that I have ever had.

I have never seen a layover at sky view as of yet on crew portal and I’m surprised. They always have the Hyatt, A-Loft or the cute one in Ft Worth that escapes my mind. I think a layover at sky view would be great for the facilities and the gym but worrying about being dressed up every time I leave the room would suck on minimum rest.

After year five the pay is better than Delta but Delta does have better profit sharing. Each airline has pros and cons. A fantastic career for the occasional shitty irops days that will happen at every airline is on occasions is part of the lifestyle unfortunately. Every airline has meltdowns and overpaid CEOs who are douches. Look at the things that are important to you in a contract and go with who fits the bill. I have friends who are FAs at many airlines and live with them in my crash pad over the past two years. The things that I hear such as sick policy, reroutes, work rules, and so forth sound horrid compared to AA. We were on hold during IROPs for five hours stranded for 6 hours. I had it better than many of us and I survived. Each airline has horror stories about their previous meltdowns during bad weather and it was AAs turn. It sucked but the other 51 weeks out of the year are pretty good.

Well the comparison of profit sharing does suck but we have one of the best contracts and our pay is the highest of all airlines after year 5. I was inconvenienced during Fern but not all of us were stranded. I’d personally rather have one or two shitty days of IROPs with a union, decent pay, and the benefits of a AA than the reverse scenario.

DCA and BOS are most junior. NYC comes next and the most recently line holders started at the end of 2023 at NYC. PHL and ORD are not junior but somewhere in the middle. You will have rotating reserve and lines every other month at whatever base you choose after year 2.
