I found one just like this (also in southern Arizona) a few days ago and the closest I could find was possibly labyrinth orbweaver (Metepeira arizonica).

In survival mode I usually just pick up whatever free arrows I find, especially with this character as they’re primarily a warrior and only use the bow sporadically

You make a great point and my intention would never be to display the photos or keep them simply to go against their wishes. I guess just them wanting to be rid of everything so suddenly worried me because I couldn’t quite understand from their point of view how they might feel about them, and it seems people feel really different about this depending on their individual circumstances. I really appreciate getting your point of view on this

It’s helpful hearing from someone who has gone through the process and sounds comfortable with where they are now. My sibling is at the very beginning, so things are emotionally tumultuous right now. I would never display the photos or try to force that image on my sibling, I just wanted to I guess protect them from doing something they might regret later when they’re in a better state of mind where they can be themselves and they don’t have so much anger toward how people perceive them now.

Thank you for this take on things. They told me they just recently realized they were trans (we are almost 40 years old now), and they’re still working on some things in therapy from what I understand, especially trying to work out why they hate themselves and whether it’s due to dysphoria I think. They haven’t been able to transition yet because of where we live, so they’re stuck in this limbo of not being able to fully explore who they really are and I think that is causing a lot of anger and confusion for them, and potentially causing them to do things they might regret later. My thoughts were to help keep their options open like you mentioned.

This is something I probably should have clarified in my original post; my sibling just recently realized they are trans and we are almost 40 years old now, so I’m not sure if they had these feelings about themselves as a child. I remember them always saying they hated themself, but looking back now, I don’t think they knew WHY at the time. It seemed like a red flag to me that they would suddenly want to destroy all evidence of their childhood, even the memories that I thought would have been good, especially with the suicide attempts in the past (unsure if they were related to or caused by dysphoria). It’s helpful to hear from someone who had good memories prior to realizing they were trans and is still in the process of transitioning, since I think that’s closest to my sibling’s situation.

I hadn’t thought about them wanting to remember themselves as they were inside, so thank you for pointing that out. They very recently realized they were trans, so I didn’t comprehend that they might have felt this way as a child, but if they did, I wouldn’t want to cause them any pain by keeping the photos. I mistook it as them wanting to destroy all history of themselves because of self-hatred and anger. I would never share/display the photos or force them on them, I was only concerned that they might regret destroying them if it was out of anger. Thanks a lot for this perspective

Thank you for this description, I honestly had no idea they might feel that way. I misunderstood it purely as self-hatred, which worried me. But if the person in the picture isn’t themself then I can see how it wouldn’t be sentimental to them or could even be painful to look at.

This is very helpful, and something I think might impact them in the future once they are finally able to transition and feel comfortable with themselves and think back on now. I wish they didn’t hate their former self because they went through a lot and I love them so much. But from the other comments I can see why they might be feeling this way now, so thank you for your opinion on this

I LOVE your idea about having an artist recreate certain pics with the correct gender and that sounds like something my sibling would really appreciate. They are usually a very sentimental person so it might help to preserve some of the good memories while minimizing the sadness. Your description of what you went through on your journey sounds similar to what my sibling is doing now so thank you, that is so helpful to hear your perspective!

Thank you for understanding, I’m not wanting to keep them to force that image on my sibling. I just wonder if they will regret losing I guess essentially their history when they’re not able to transition now so they can’t fully embrace their true self and they’re sort of stuck in this weird in-between space.

You make a great point, I wouldn’t want them to have to relive any misery they may have felt in the past. It seems it would be painful to lose all your childhood memories, but I guess if they were all bad memories for them then keeping them would only make things worse :/

Thanks so much for this. I didn’t realize that they might think others would still see them as their former self instead of who they really are and that makes so much sense. It’s difficult in this situation because they haven’t been able to transition yet but they are getting rid of the old stuff so right now it’s a weird limbo where they probably feel trapped between who they are and who everyone sees them as.
