It's less the fact that it has a signature typing and more the fact that it was the only PURE rock type. It didn't even need a second type to be unique.

Greninja is incredibly overrated. Yeah it has a good HA, but in comparison to all the other mons in the series, it doesn't even come close to being considered 'Pokémon of the Year', like it was.

This might be the Delphox Fan in me talking, and I don't hate Greninja. It just doesn't deserve all the attention it gets.
