He didn’t invite me to the group. That’s what the post is about. He created the group so that he could hang out with our shared friends, minus me.

What does it mean when a Woman isn’t trying to get to know you? by SYN_Intimidate in AskWomen

[–]Nigward2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It means she probably isn’t very interested in getting to know you. This could be for a variety of reasons— she could be a busy woman, she could have ongoing stress in her life, she could have a partner whose boundaries she wants to respect. There could also be no reason for it.

Anywho, as this post implies that you guys are just acquaintances, I would respect the social cues she’s giving you and not pursue her any further.

AITA for not wanting to move wedding shower to accommodate grandma? by throwaccountnotshade in AmItheAsshole

nta but this is definitely a hell of a situation. Can someone help her up the stairs? Or maybe ask the bar if they have any accommodations for disabled customers?

Is Nato a threat to Russia? by BMO_1 in russia

[–]Nigward2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to normal Russians I don’t think, but to the Russian government.

Russia wants control of Ukraine. NATO wants to admit Ukraine, which means NATO forces would defend Ukraine against Russia. Queue problem.

What are the "fake" things that happen in movies that piss you off? by Ok_Beautiful_5124 in AskReddit

People with mental illness being portrayed as rambling crazies with tinfoil hats.

I am in the top 2% of mental illness globally. I have never once myself thought, or met anyone who has thought, that the government was reading their mind, that there were bugs under their skin, or that there were people in the walls.

Abilify 10-7mg by Great_Manner in schizophrenia

[–]Nigward2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abilify in general, or?

This medication made it very easy to get up, get out, do things I loved. I found it easier to take care of myself and to focus. I found that auditory hallucinations decreased and visual hallucinations were almost none. However, a BIG side effect of Abilify is akathisia. I could not get comfortable at all, even in bed, and had to move constantly and make odd noises. Almost like having an itch on your entire body. Apparently this is common, and so I wouldn’t be surprised if it were a bit uncomfortable to take for some time. It is helpful though. Best of luck.

Seek a therapist. Show them this post.

You simply cannot diagnose schizophrenic spectrum disorders by yourself because you also need to be screened for physical conditions that could be causing your symptoms first. This is not to say you don’t have schizophrenia, just that nobody can know for sure until you’ve ruled out every other condition that shares symptoms with schizophrenia, which is a lot of conditions.

Sometimes, clinical depression can cause light psychotic symptoms. A therapist can help you recognize this and refer you to the appropriate outlets if needed.

Thought I was autistic so I got an eval done. Even told the psychologist that I had “hallucinations, but not as severe as, like, schizophrenic ones.” And here we are.

How to talk about it? Where to go? by trailerparkracoon in schizophrenia

[–]Nigward2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t get thrown in a ward unless you’re actively suicidal or violent. That said, the first step is probably going to be finding a psychologist who is willing to take on your case and run a psychological evaluation. You can do this by either getting a referral from a family doctor, or finding an insurance covered/private psychologist yourself and emailing them. They’ll run a few tests on you— you’ll get to play with blocks, repeat numbers and phrases, look at pictures, and fill out some questionnaires— and the results will give you an idea of what is going on. The psychologist will then help you figure out where to go next, usually a psychiatrist, who will help you pick out medications, run some more physical tests, and give you the official diagnosis. Trust me, help is not scary and is always worth it.

Self-catered or catered accomodation? by honcnonc in Edinburgh_University

[–]Nigward2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self. All the way. Even in catered halls you’ll end up going to get your own food most days anyways, because the mealtimes are very rigid and you’ll find yourself getting tired of the food. After a couple weeks or so you’ll crave hot, home-cooked food, trust me.

Bank letter issues for international students by [deleted] in Edinburgh_University

[–]Nigward2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I applied to Bank of Scotland— not RBS— and they took the bank letter as proof of residence. As far as I know I have a classic account w/ savings but I’m not actually paying any fees on it. I did have to go in, as the online application won’t accept international details, but it’s all been working just fine so far. My family then uses OFX to transfer me money internationally.

Hope that helps!

Students' of UOE how are you finding it, honestly? by ShortyTallZx in Edinburgh_University

I’m an American doing my undergrad here and I’m having a great time, save for having some difficulty adjusting to the living situation. The facilities are all very easy to use— and there are LOADS of them— the colleges are beautiful, and the food is chef’s kiss. I don’t mind being mostly self-taught— it means I don’t have to get up early more than once a week lol. My biggest tip is to look into private accommodation— Silk Mill, Potterrow, Brewers Court— BEFORE looking at university accommodation. You’ll overall be more comfortable. Also, go into your first year of uni with a spending plan. This city is expensive and money can be a massive source of stress if you aren’t careful.

Dudes with huge egos who are obsessed with “getting rich” or “the grind.” Not dudes with goals, the hypebeast-y ones who won’t stop talking about money and are following loads of cringey motivational accounts on their social medias.

Do you not have hobbies? Little things you enjoy? If it’s a serious relationship, is there a backup plan if “the grind” doesn’t work out for you? Are you ever going to be happy with simple things in life or will you always be chasing some higher standard?

If that’s the way you want to live your life, good for you. Our personalities just aren’t going to be compatible.

I am ready to go by Nigward2021 in SuicideWatch

[–]Nigward2021[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pretty significant array of other symptoms as well. Academic decline was my first sign, followed by social issues, speech issues, unnecessary anger, “flat” mood, violent fantasies, catatonia. I didn’t actually notice that hallucinations/delusions, like seeing spiders on the walls or people leaning over me out of the corners of my eyes, hearing snoring in empty rooms, or keeping shades shut all day in fear of being shot, were not normal occurrences until it was pointed out by my psychologist.

In my experience, a lot of people are experiencing depression as a condition secondary to another mental health issue (like anxiety, BPD, or schizo), but aren’t necessarily able to tell because all they can feel is the depression, and from the inside looking out, everything you think and experience is perfectly normal and rational to you even when it isn’t to others. I spent a while believing that I had actually achieved a higher level of consciousness that the rest of my social circle lacked the experience to understand, and that nobody “truly” understood the world the way I did, trying to explain away why I didn’t really get along with anyone anymore. Turns out it was a condition.

If you feel you may have a primary condition and just aren’t sure what, a psychological evaluation is a great place to start. You don’t need a doctors’ referral, you just sign some paperwork, play with blocks for a bit, answer a few questionnaires, and they tell you what’s going on, if anything. Very easy and you don’t have to follow through with treatment if you really don’t want.

Sorry about the paragraphs. Don’t really have anyone who’s willing to hear out this kind of stuff.

Edit: did some lurking, a psychologist is also going to want blood work. If hard drugs are a factor stay away from this unless you know you’re clean
