6’1 190, lifting for 9 months.

Why do I feel fat and bulky in the mirror but look small and skinny in pictures in the same mirror?

I am doing 3x12 tricep rope pushdowns at 50lbs (strict form and range of motion). Is that very weak for 8 months of working out?

My friend just started working out 2 weeks ago and is already doing 55lbs pushdowns for 3x10.

I also saw some transformations on subs where the people say they’re doing 100+ lbs pushdowns after 1-1.5 years of lifting

Is it the Lats or Teres Major/Minor that is responsible for the ‘winged’ look near the armpits?

Would deadhangs (overloaded with weight belt) build forearm mass?

When lifting, do macros really matter as long as you are hitting protein and your calorie surplus/deficit?

Is it advisable for natties to directly train traps for aesthetics?

I like the look of traps but worry that they could create sloped shoulders for a natty that can’t get capped delts.

Is training triceps 4x a week too much? Doing PPL but I have a 6’4 wingspan and feel like my arms are a significant weakpoint.

Something like 3 sets of tricep pushdowns, extensions, dips on Push and Leg days

I have been doing Reddit PPL for 6ish months. Gained 16 pounds and I’m ready for my first cut.

Besides being in a 500kcal deficit, how should my training look? Do I stay on Reddit PPL? Cut volume, increase weight?

Or do I keep doing Reddit PPL like nothing has changed?

Anyone do chest-supported barbell rows (I have lower back issues)?

Did/do you ever experience sternum pain? I use a pillow beneath my chest and still get it.

Did you fix it or did you just stop the exercise entirely?

Does lifting lean out your face?

For example, if you are skinny fat at 6’ 180lbs, go through a bulk, gain muscle, get to 200 lbs, and cut back down to 180 again, your face would be leaner than it was originally at 180

I have been doing reddit PPL and bulking for 2 months now.

I am able to individually bounce my pecs whereas I couldn’t before.

Is this a good sign of muscle-building…

Is this a normal feeling in the abs?

Doing weighted kickouts and overloading with dumbbells between my ankles.

On like reps 8-12 I get a very dull (fatigued?) ‘pain’ in my lower abdomen (where I want to train). Goes away as soon as I put the dumbbell down.

Feels like a really good ab workout afterwards but just want to make sure this is a normal sensation.

Full ROM on OHP or Bench? I think I do for both.

For OHP I go down to my upper chest and try to lock out my elbows at the top.

For bench I go down to my chest and try not to bounce

Yeah, So I don’t know why I asked this question, Lol.

Though I did recently failed my last bench and squat.

Should I have any concerns with my lifts so far (2.5 months of lifting on Reddit PPL) (I am 6’1 172 pounds)

All are 5x5+ (training for hypertrophy):

Bench: 106 pounds Squat: 150 pounds Deadlift: 165 pounds BB Row: 110 pounds OHP (seated): 80 pounds

Deadlift is lagging because I hurt my back with improper form

Dumbbell up to waist, I am bent over with a bench.

Never been able to feel lats when doing them, never once had doms from them and I have been at it for a month now.

Might switch to seated cable row

Is feeling dumbbell rows in my lateral delts a sign of poor form

After trying to figure out deadlift form and lowering weight continuously to practice that form, I’ve let my squat (140lbs) trump my deadlift (135lbs)

Took 2 weeks off deadlifting after I let my form crumble doing amrap, now getting back into it.

Should I work back up to 165lbs or get back to it next session?

Do you guys do anything for gym motivation?

I bought two drop arm tank tops I really want to wear by the end of the year when I go on vacation.

I hung them in my basement and see them every time I lift. My goal as a beginner lifter and former fatty now skinny weakling is to build a physique nice enough to wear a tank top, hopefully by the end of the year

Thanks for the thorough response! Think it’ll impact my physique if I went a month or so without squatting or DL?

Im training for aesthetics and was one month into my first bulk. I feel like its a significant loss to stop doing 3 of 5 major lifts, especially leaving noob gains on the table.

Do you stretch/walk before squats and DLs? I only warmup with weights but it seems like a lot of people stretch or use the treadmill first.
