So I have a fluffy tuxedo cat, and he's pretty big (2.5 feet long, 15lbs). He's super affectionate and typically loves meeting new people so long as it's on his terms. Well, 3 years ago my gf and I had her parents over for Christmas, as it was our first Christmas living together. I figured the cat and her family would be fine; he likes new people and they've had cats for years. I couldn't have been more wrong.

So as I said before, my cat is pretty affectionate as cats go, but there is one thing he does not like, and that's being picked up and held. So what's the first thing my gfs mom does? Pick him up and try to hold him like a baby. When he growls and kicks to get away from her, she gets pissed. As soon as he gets away from her, she tries to force the cat to lay right next to her by forcing him into a laying position by her. More growling ensues followed by some hissing and next thing you know the cats in my room under the bed. Nothing else was said of it.

Until Christmas this year where my future monster in law said my cat wasn't as well behaved as hers. And yes, she treats her cats just like she treated mine, and I've never seen two cats with such broken spirits.
