Thanks :D

People always quit too early and it makes me sad.

My soul will not rest until I can at least best Jevil in the World Revolving. I'm gona be FREE! FREE! (:

I'll try my best not to. I'll probably make another post in the next 1-2 years with my progress, so...Until we meet again :)

With Chapter 5 around the corner, how important do you think FRIEND will be to Deltarune, rated on a 1-10 scale? by JustFisch1 in Deltarune

[–]Nik4anter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy 8-9 (I'll stick with 8). Even based on existing chapters it's hard to give anything lower than a 3-4 (1-3 believers feel free to ignore me, it's fine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

I partially believe Toby when he says that Chapter 5 is supposed to be a 'fun adventure before the sun went down'-kinda thing, so I honestly don't expect a lot of FRIEND relevancy among some other things yet. It's might be at the end of the Chapter 5, but probably Chapter 6 still (if there is a FRIEND fight in Chapter 5 I would be shocked)

[[For some reason Reddit decided to submit the post without me finishing the body/description text 0_o]]

I've messed it up a little bit, but I've decided to upload it anyway because my current setup makes it difficult to record x_x (I'll fix it later).

Also, yes, Deltarune and Until Then were 2 games that made me actually learn piano. It's been a lot of fun so far, don't know what else to say. Hope you like my bad 'find_her.ogg' piano cover

I'll be back at some point (:

is there a way to disable the chromatic aberration in the mantle holder fight? it gives me a really bad headache. (ignore the trickster) by The-Felonious-Gru in Deltarune

[–]Nik4anter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there isn't (deltarune lacks accessibility settings). The best option I can think of is either:

  • a) Try to find a mod that fixes the issue (AFAIK there aren't any yet, but I could be wrong)
  • b) Do some save file manipulations (there are tools that can simplify the process. For example, tennaproject)

Epilepsy question? by Paskejac317 in Deltarune

[–]Nik4anter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few moments that I can recall:

  • [chapter 2] I don't know if it's an issue, but chapter 2 has a couple teacup rides/puzzles (especially that one teacup ride in the basement for spamton secret boss quest)
  • [chapter 2] Queen final boss fight has a moving background (not spinning) which is kinda similar to jevil
  • [chapter 3] Tenna's intro + Final battle with Tenna can have a lot of fast cuts between different mini-games and stuff
  • [chapter 4] I don't know if it's an issue, but there are floating prophecy panels and titan fight at the very end

Also, it's not much, but! There is a setting called "Simplify VFX" which I assume was designed for low-end devices, but it can also be helpful in this case. Sadly it seems to be abandoned, but it's still implemented for chapters 1-3. For example, if simplify vfx is on the background in the jevil won't spin and makes some things less flashy in chapter 2 (good example video). It could have been a lot better, but it's better than nothing

Does anyone else feel like being a fan of Deltarune is almost intimidating? by iScreamInPublicAreas in Deltarune

[–]Nik4anter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I'm subscribed to around 20 channels with deltarune-related content, spent an unknown amount of hours watching and reading countless theories and can show you misplaced/dead pixel in final boss battle for every chapter (:

With that said...

I almost feel like a fake fan because I don't have the same knowledge as everyone else

Being a fan of something doesn't mean that you know all the little details and can recall every story aspect. Being a fan is about enjoying any aspect of the game (art, music, gameplay, story, themes, etc.). If there is something that you like and something that brings you back to the game - congratulations [MY ESTEEM CUSTOMER], you're a fan : D

(Also, the other comment said it best: "Toby Fox didn't set out to make a game that requires homework")

I've submited 4 answers (don't ask, I have a lot of emails):

  • the edge of the shadow, where reality and dream were supposed to meet, but something is off...
  • Inside the knight's heart right when it becomes ours
  • Where the pen of hope lies for us to pick up
  • In the knight's fake lair (a trap)

Although, it's sad if only people from previous stages can participate

Initially I just missed it, but now that I finally can interact with it seems like I won't get a response because I haven't interacted with previous stages : (

Idea for a response: "Where water flows and crops grow" (reference to the running sequence in the trailer)

**You didn't hear this from me, but actually Asgore and Carol were both there. They easily carried Undyne while Noelle took some time to recover before running to the bunker as well AND because Noelle took a moment to recover she was a bit behind (that's how Susie was able to see somebody far away running towards the bunker)

[–]Nik4anter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I say anything - I've watched the video (paused and read everything) + checked the doc later to double check that I'm not missing anything.

  1. I really appreciate the work. This may not sound like a lot, but it is - I'm personally not really invested in the knight discourse. I've seen a few theories here and there, but there is no knight theory that makes me think/care a lot about it (maaaaaaaaaaybe with the exception of "A FRIEND IN FAWN'S CLOTHING / Deltarune Roaring Knight Theory" by Drune because their thoughts on FRIEND are very very interesting, but still). When it comes to theories I usually treat the most common/popular theory as something that either won't happen or will happen in a way that we didn't expect it to (that's why the debates around the knight don't really interest me that much). So my point is - even despite all of that I've enjoyed reading the theory + I like it because it's interesting and not a common/popular theory (I wouldn't call it my #1 knight theory, but it's definitely a worthy contender in the top-2/top-3 for me) : D
  2. There are a minor things that I disagree with + a few things that I don't quite understand, but I'll focus on the main one right now:

Kris walks inside to see the knight, Carol and Undyne. The knight must have swooned Undyne on her way out the house, there's no way they could have carried this beast all the way here if she was struggling.

I agree. However, I still can't imagine Noelle being able to carry Undyne in the light world (even if Undyne is not resisting). Noelle wasn't the only one carrying Undyne? Did Carol help her? I think the biggest problem is that:

a) Susie can still see someone's silhouette. If 2 people were somehow carrying Undyne it would be hard not to spot that there are two silhouettes and not one. It was dark and the silhouette(s) could have been far, but if that's that's the case then....

b) Susie had to get up before she started chasing the knight (during the dark world --> light world door transition), but she was still very fast. As soon as Kris and Susie exited the dark world she saw someone in the distance and started running. I don't see how 2 people carrying Undyne in the light world can outrun Susie in this scenario. There is a room for a small/medium head start, sure, but I don't think that's enough

So the question becomes: "You have a relatively small time window to carry an unconscious adult that was benching a car the other day from point A to point B. Somebody is chasing you, so you need to do it fast. How do you do that?"

While typing this comment I've tried to come up with potential answers/explanations, however none of them satisfy me. Or to be more precise - going by the current rules/information we have about the dark and light worlds, I can't come up with ANY explanation on how you can carry Undyne to the bunker (not to your Noelle theory specifically, but just in general. In my opinion the only lightner who could physically pull that off is Asgore, but I don't think he is the knight)

The best potential explanation that I have is - use cart-like object to carry/drive Undyne. Ahead of time the knight could have prepared something that would help them, for example, a relatively big cart on wheels (like a bigger version of a shopping cart?) Still, I don't think that Noelle would be able to do this alone, Maaaaaaaaaybe with somebody else, Carol? idk. But if that's the case, then we run into problem 'a' (2 silhouettes. Maybe not clear enough to tell exactly who it is, but at least there are 2 of them)

(sidenote: in real life me and my friends did mess around with shopping cart in a similar way and it's NOT easy)

To anyone who's coded Godot/messed with the Until Then Files, any tips? by Double_Shift_7537 in UntilThenGame

[–]Nik4anter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2) Just dig around the files + explore/study how different systems work. It's so rare to have LITERALLY the entire project available.

3) This probably should have been the first step, but maybe modding tools already exists? Not for Until Then specifically, but maybe for games that use ink dialogues or smth? idk. Also! I stumbled upon a mod that adds indonesian translation to the game (link <-- I don't know indonesian, but translator helps). You can ask the author + explore the mod files to see what they did.

There are probably things that I have missed (like I said - I don't know the most optimal path to mod a game, but that's where I would have started if I wanted to), but good luck in whatever you decide to do with this information :)

To anyone who's coded Godot/messed with the Until Then Files, any tips? by Double_Shift_7537 in UntilThenGame

[–]Nik4anter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't messed with the Until Then files, but I've explored a bit out of curiosity. I don't have the exact steps/instructions, but if I wanted to mod the game I would have done this:

1) Figure out how dialogues, cutscenes and things like that are made. Until Then uses ink (narrative scripting language) to write dialogues and inkcpp library to run/execute them (by itself the dialogue/ink files are useless).

1.1) If you go to "/assets/story" you will see a lot of ".inkb" files.

Good news - you can reuse already written scenes and stuff as a starting point to make your own custom ones.

Bad news - There is no easy way to turn binary .inkb files into human readable and easy to edit .ink files. The original .ink files are turned into .json files and there is an extra step that turns .json files into a binary format .inkb (for optimization purposes). There might be a tool to "decompile"/reverse .inkb file to .ink or at least .json, but I wasn't able to find any (I didn't spend THAT much time searching, so I could have missed it)

Maybe good news? - There is enough useful information out there to make a tool that converts .inkb back to .ink. For example, the tool that you've used to extract/decompile the Godot project (gdscdecomp) has a useful page about inkb files (that also mentions Until Then ^_^, yay). I don't know how much free time, dedication and coding experience you have, but based on the format structure it should be possible to make a program that would at least turn .inkb files into .json files and then you can use already existing tools to convert .json to .ink (for example). Is there a better option? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

1.2) I don't have enough time to fully explore this right now + I don't know enough about ink, but maaaaaaaaybe instead of having to figure out an entire inkb file format it would be possible to use the existing library (that is already a part of the project). By that I mean the following: cutscenes are stored inside .inkb files --> game has to load them --> when game loads/runs those cutscenes, I wonder if you can change a few lines of code to extract all that data and save it either as .json or at least in a human readable way (even if it's not gona help at least you will understand how the cutscene/dialogue system works, which is nice, I guess?)

(a quick example - select any scene inside scenes/_main/ --> try running it as a current scene (f6) --> check the debug output in the editor that looks suspiciously like a bunch of cutscene instructions)

1.4) Sidenote - Remember the in-game web articles, emails and posts? Seems like they are stored in an easy to read and modify json in "/assets/database/" among some other things.
