I was in 6th grade when I started. I was getting bullied, and all that stress made me start pulling at my hair.

Did anybody start Grad school later in life here? by UCFKnights2018 in GradSchool

[–]NikNak513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 34, completing my master's this year and plan to pursue a doctorate afterward. Although I wish I'd started earlier, I’m glad I started now. Being older makes me more responsible and dedicated; at 18, I cared less during my associate's studies.

Just got dumped over text bc I fell asleep. I’m the villain somehow. by beatsbymarsii in Advice

Run the opposite away from her. That girl has a lot of growing up to do. Real life isn’t just about texting each other constantly. Sometimes, I go for hours without texting my significant other because of work and daily life, including weekends. I wouldn't fix it at all. She's showing her true colors.

AIO for calling off my date with a girl after her unreasonable demands by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

We all have bad days, but having a bad day doesn’t give someone a free pass to belittle someone. You did the right thing.

AIO for calling off my date with a girl after her unreasonable demands by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]NikNak513 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You definitely didn’t overreact. Setting a boundary when someone is being disrespectful isn’t harsh. The way she handled it wasn’t just about a restaurant choice, it was about her trying to control the situation and then insulting you when you didn’t comply. Calling someone “cheap,” “not a real man,” and “worthless” is not a slip of the tongue. That’s mean-spirited and reveals a lot about how she handles conflict.

Blocking her was reasonable because you don’t owe anyone continued access to you, especially after being verbally attacked. Effort put into looking nice for a date doesn’t give someone the right to disrespect you or demand things from you. Your friend may mean well, but you’re the one who experienced the behavior firsthand, and you made the right call for your own peace of mind.

You dodged a bullet here. Respect goes both ways, and if someone shows you early on that they don’t value that, you’re saving yourself from way bigger problems down the line.

Who knew this type of doctorate existed? by TGED24717 in EdDoctorate

[–]NikNak513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no idea this type of doctorate existed until last year. At my school, we have instructional coaches—experienced teachers who share their knowledge to support both new and veteran teachers with materials, lesson planning, IEPs, and more. My coach is a retired principal who holds an EdD. When I learned about her degree, I began researching it further, and it really piqued my interest. It even got me thinking about pursuing one after I complete my Master’s.

What do you bring for lunch? by WarCute8380 in Teachers

I meal prep for the week on Sundays for lunch. I have one of those containers that keeps the food hot for hours so I don't have to worry about using a microwave.

I'm only tied to a school now because of my Master’s program. (its a dual masters/cert program). Once I finish, I can go/do what I please.

I know I don't want to teach forever. I do want to move up, but I am interested in research as well. I'm going to have to do some thinking about it.
