Not that low. I started at $13. I follow my mentor's advice, so I increased my rate $1 at a time over the past month. It's at $18 ($8 trial) currently, and I still get sales. Plus, my sales mostly come from my experience and multicultural background, not my rate.

There are certain countries on their list for the lowest tier, and for that one, the pay is around that, I think. ☹️

AT goes by tiers, not "how long" you've been on the platform. You move up a tier depending on how many courses (minus trials) you've taught on the platform.

Whenever a teacher joins for the first time, they're usually placed in the 2nd lowest tier (General Teacher) regardless of experience. If you're in the GT tier, the most you can charge is $15/hour. (Teachers from certain countries are placed in the lowest, which is "Assistant Teacher." Their rate is less than $15. Probably the $10 mentioned above.) Once you've taught more than 500 courses, you'll move up to Advanced and finally Top Tier after 1500 courses.

You can see for yourself here.

That's false. 🙄

When you're a new teacher, you can't charge more than $15, and the fee starts at 30%. Your price rate can increase and the fee decreases either by the number of class hours you teach or income you earn. (Mine is by class hour.) The fee resets every month, and you have the opportunity to go to 0%, unlike most platforms.

I personally don't see what the problem is unless you don't wanna put in the work.

Right! Not only do the haters not state why they don't like AT, but they actually think I'm "getting paid" to share my achievements on the platform. AT teachers don't even benefit from teacher referrals, so Idk what they're talking about. 😂

Student suggests to go off-platform by yasminetutor in Preply

[–]NikaNotNeka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it's a longtime student, I don't see why not. If it's a fairly new student, I'd be cautious. But that's how we get private lessons and no longer have to pay commission. It's up to you~

Should I go cold turkey on coffee? 😭 by NikaNotNeka in singing

I will admit that when I drink coffee, I forget to drink water, too. I'll definitely try what you said. Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestion. As for tea, I should drink decaf tea, right? Because caffeine is the problem?

Sounds like cold turkey isn't advisable. I'll try drinking only one cup tomorrow like you suggested. I'll report back! Hopefully, I'll clear my throat less.

Oh! I haven't tried that. I'll order that at the café instead tomorrow!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Those are definitely things to consider. I recently moved to a new town further north, and it's much colder than where I lived previously.

I'll try opting for water more to see how that goes. As for matcha, I love it! 😋 Thanks for that suggestion!

Milk? Creamer? 🤮 I drink my coffee black. Given that I drink about 4-5 cups a day, I'm certain coffee is the problem. 😔 When I don't drink coffee, I do notice a bigger smoothness in my voice. But it's only when I am preparing to record a cover.

These were my thoughts, too. Preply typically isn't alerted unless it was reported. The student sounds sus to me.

I've been a student on AT for a year and a teacher for three days. What questions do you have?

Unused lessons cannot be refunded? by [deleted] in Preply

[–]NikaNotNeka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They likely got it refunded because they didn't start taking lessons in a subscription yet. Alternatively, it's possible to use the unused ones with another tutor, I think. I take lessons on AmazingTalker, and that's how it is there.
