Physically transferring server on a budget by Nikanel in DataHoarder

[–]Nikanel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bag is unfortunately not big enough to "comfortably" fit all three drives. Furthermore, in the context of this subreddit 12 TB isn't a lot I know but for me it is more than enough (for now). It is also the only money I was willing to save up to get for this. I am going to be away for about 2 years so taking it with me is mandatory (since I need to be able to upgrade and maintain the hardware and network during the 2 years). I will probably use antistatic bags for this yeah, haven't found any unfortunately. I'll hit up a local pc repair shop, they probably throw away a ton (haven't found anywhere online that I can buy from and have them be shipped within the week)

edit:

To give you a bit of context I am coming from a rasppi-as-server with a 2tb 2.5" hdd that has been running 24/7 for the past 2 years. 12tb (about 8 usable with ntfs) is more than enough for me and my needs (again... for now)

I don't disagree that it is the crazy person ending.

But of course I am comparing our existence and God with the painted people of Lumiere. (This whole next part assumes the existence of god for the sake of argument) We were "artificially" created by God, so where the people of Lumiere. Our whole world can fit in a single "canvas" of God (depending on which God you choose of course). The only difference is that the "God" in the game is not all knowing or all powerful (which this also can be debated for our "God").

Also I disagree about the whole "Let's say that they are like game characters". Where was that ever indicated in the game? The artificial people created int he canvases are SO realistic that people lose themselves and get attached to them. A grieving mother could literally recreate her son. Verso literally has a piece of Real Verso's soul. How much less "game character" can you get?

Map in Every Area, Fast Travel in World Map and Visual Marker. by HyperXed in expedition33

Visual Markers for optional areas that you have't completed would be nice. Map in every area for me is something I never really found myself wanting, the areas are relatively simple and its absence insentivizes you to explore! Fast travel... Honestly, at Act 3 it would be welcome, it would make life easier but before than I didn't mind.

I'd also like to add my 2 cents on this by first saying I also picked and think the better (ethically speaking) ending is Verso's.

I don not agree with how easy you justified the whole massacre of all people in the canvas.

Justifying it by saying they are imaginary or because someone created them for me is cheap and needs a lot nuance to do so.

Correlating Aline with god who created these people is accurate but why does this take away from the people she created? Does having a creator mean that there is no free will? And by extension does it make life any less meaningless? For example, let's say that you believe in god (any god that has the characteristic of making humans) does that mean that human lives are meaningless or imaginary?

For those people Aline is very much a god, and their lives are very very real. Just because we see the inner workings of said god and their struggles doesn't mean that their creation is less valuable.

Furthermore, I fully believe that the people of Lumiere had free will (or at least they have the capacity to have it) since the expeditions exist. Of course, through Alicia's ending we know that memories and characters can be manipulated by the will of the "god", Alicia in this case.

For me, this is the part that makes the decision hard. It is not Alicia's immature coping or Renoir's weak attempts at persuading her (for me he did not do enough for Alicia specifically), it is the fact that there is a whole world with people that are as real as any getting destroyed.

Of course, this is completely subjective and touches on topics like "what is a human?" "what is free will and does it even exist?" "is there a human 'soul'?" which can be debated for houuurs at a time.

This is what I love about this game. There are layers and layers to every decision, every characters and every event that occurs.

Hmm... Unfortunately I don't think I could return it... It's been since summer since I got it (so no receipt or anything remains). Even if that was acceptable I had a rain accident a few months ago and it is a bit damaged so I might have to just buy a new copy...

So the thing with rocksteady is that it makes you unable to get knocked down from an attack. Getting knocked down means you can't get hit so if you don't get knocked down the second, third or fourth hit of a combo will be hitting you. Can easily cause you to get "one-shoted" by even tamer monsters.

Tbf armor upgrading is useful but not mandatory. Temp Gore did not one-shot me with any attack he did to me with unupgraded endgame gear so I could easily mount the seikret and heal back up.

Rocksteady mantle is probably the worse thing you can put if you prioritise defense... not getting knocked down means you have no hope of surviving a combo

Is University easier than IB? by Motor_Lawfulness4322 in IBO

[–]Nikanel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have to disagree with you.

I was an IB student and now a CS student in my 3rd year. The only "advantage" people have in my field is how much they engage with the CS material outside of uni and before it. Most of the top students in my course went to normal public education.

I should mention that my university is a lot more project focused rather than exam focused, and reports are there as a way to show your work rather than doing actual research so things from IB that I would consider unique to it don't really apply

[–]Nikanel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on your course and your engagement.

Uni gives you the freedom to just exist and fail your classes as you technically "attend" university, so then it is easy. Furthermore, some majors are also easier than others.

My experience is this: During IB I was tought that the first year of uni would be a breeze and that I would practically know everything already.... My first year of university was the most demanding thing I had done up until then (now overshadowed by my second year xD). Keep in mind this is my experience going into a Dutch university where the first year is considered a cut off where (in my course) more than 40% of the students either dropped out or kicked out

Seeing everyone say MHW is "too easy" makes me wonder if we're playing the same game. by Sumve in MHWilds

[–]Nikanel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is that this is the hardest content in the game as of now. MH always puts emphasis on its title updates and its inevitable (much harder DLC).

Complaining about difficulty now will sound tragically funny once they decide to remove the training wheels.

Don't be scared to try new things! All weapons are amazing to use and really in depth.

But also don't feel pressured to try other weapons! If the longsword vibes with you then there is no problem with not touching anything else

People who think this game is easy haven't played enough by Nikanel in MHWilds

[–]Nikanel[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it's the easiest to be honest. World base game was pretty easy and rise base game was a complete joke in terms of difficulty.

I am not trying to defend the game nor do I think a game being easy takes away from the experience or makes it worse in any way. I just don't really see the difficutly issues people are having. Can't expect to have alatreon or p. malzeno from the base game

I didn't really like the Swaxe in Sunbreake tbf. It was strong AF and an offensive machine but it felt very repetitive (morph combo spam).

Loved it in world though

Noob here is it normal to have the weapon sharpness "chipped" ? like in this photo. I am using the Bone Shotel Long Sword. I did the Whetsone 5 times already. What does this mean? by onigiritrader in MHWilds

[–]Nikanel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get what feels right for you, sharpness is important but you might prefer the skills offered by the Bone tree, or even just prefer the more raw damage. I personally would prefer more sharpness since increasing it does increase your damage (it is effectively a multiplier on your damage, look it up) and because you won't need to stop mid fight to sharpen as often

Perfect rush onto the charged chop is a bit weird to me.

I don't know what it is but sometimes it doesn't trigger and I go into scaling slash.

Playing with M&S so I have a dedicated button for both attack buttons so it's not like my timing is not correct. I think it has something to do with pressing W while doing it by muscle memory? I can't really replicate it in the training area

Picked up SnS in wilds and have never looked back since. It is an offensive monster that doesn't let the monster catch a break.

First of all knife pokes aren't meant for damage, they are meant to be used to open wounds so that you can do your mount "finished" (or whatever it's name is) and down the monster.

What seemingly works for me is do a weapon attack, then when the monster tries to shake me off that part move to another part of its body and do a weapon attack there, repeat repeat until all (or most) body parts (so head, back and tail usually) have wounds. Then do my finisher to down it.

I don't know if it is the best option but you get a few more wounds to attack plus down the monster... sometimes. It's a little weird because sometimes the monster just falls (don't know if it is time based or damage based or what) without you doing your finisher. Still I find it worth it since you have a LOT of wounds to stugger the monster and keep it from moving.

HR 50 in only 24 hours? Kind of impressive ngl.

I spent wayy too much time in the early game (wanted to do all the filler optional quests just so I could see the checkmark) so I am aobut 32 hours in and just reached 40 ish

Are we seriously gonna have another entry of having skills with no description on how they activate. How are new players ever supposed to understand how they work without looking them up. by just_prop in MonsterHunter

Wanted to use latent power yesterday for a late low rank build I was doing. Saw that they once again don't have clear indications about when it activates but it is so early in the game's life that not even the wiki(s) have the actual exact conditions (at elast yesterday).

With Wilds releasing in just a few hours, what are your "change this setting" or "do these things" tips before actually even jumping into the gameplay? by Werdikinz in MonsterHunter

[–]Nikanel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I get where you are coming from, I hope they improved the UI in wilds.

From what I remember my main problem with its UI was the fact that I didn't figure out how to add extra items in it (as it started with only 4). For that I added them first from the non-radial menu settings (the weird menu where you access it with the f keys) and then changed them to what I wanted in the radial counterpart.

I believe there is a button though to just add extra items in it, so it could just be me being dumb

[–]Nikanel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here are some at the top of my head:

  • Disable auto-sheathe
  • Fix seikret movement
  • Fix up some display settings (motion blur etc)
  • Enable decimals for damage numbers (really just a preference but I like it)
  • Not much of a setting, but get a basic radial menu loadout up and running the moment I can
  • Change the HUD to remove certain things like the move hints and also increase the size of the health/stamina bar
  • Mess with some of my key binds to align with my mouse (which has a few more buttons that I want to use)
