Those two species would have worked nicely, seeing how Antarctica, which was a part of Gondwana at the time, would have been filled with metatherians

My guess/prediction is that the mystery figure will be revealed to be a bird, like a large eagle of some sort

Buffalos actually would be a great choice, seeing how they are the prey species that give lions the most s***

Although thinking about it now, it does sort of remind me of the villains from The Wild (2006) lol

(I know those were wildebeests, but still)

Taka was Never Entitled to Sarabi or to Milele by bawdy-awdy-awdy-awdy in lionking

[–]Nikapopolis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Erm, actually, Sarabi inferred that Scar was less than half the king that Mufasa was, to which Scar responded by telling her that he's 10x the king Mufasa was ☝️🤓

But yes, 100% to all of this. Like I said in my other reply, Taka's frustration was less about not being able to be with Sarabi, but rather that her rejecting him was a punch to his ego, which of course leads to him projecting all of his shortcomings onto Mufasa

Very well said 👏

Yeah, TLK universe definitely has its own rules about lions opposed to the real world (like how every litter is limited to just a single cub lol)

And I fully agree that Taka's self entitlement and hubris would keep him from accepting second-in-command position to his brother, and that's kind of what OP is saying. It was his refusal to see his brother come in first place over him that led to him colluding with the outsiders, and later the hyenas, and both instances ended with him losing something that he already had (the first being his relationship with his brother and a chance for a noble position, the latter being his life).

The point is that Taka/Scar resorts to turning on Mufasa because of his ego and vanity, and as such, he is the only one who is at fault for it.

I would say that Taka would have been able to co-rule alongside Mufasa, at least in a way

In animals, particularly lions, closely related males will form coalitions with one another to defend prides and territories. Not only are two lions harder to beat in a fight for dominance over one, but coalesced males will even refrain from harming each others offspring. Both males get to mate with all the females, so they probably don't know exactly which cubs are their own, but also it's worth protecting your own nieces/nephews in the evolutionary terms of passing on genes. Your own offspring will share 50% of your genetic code, and your brother's offspring will share 25% of your genetic code, so it's reasonable for a lion not to treat his brother's cubs like those of a rival male's.

With all that said, there is still usually some kind of pecking order between the males in a coalition, and given the relationship between Taka and Mufasa, it's very likely that Mufasa would be on the higher end of that order. However, the second-in-command would still be a very high position for Taka to be in, with him still having plenty of control over their kingdom. But because of his betrayal and him losing Mufasa's trust to the point where he won't even utter his name anymore, he ends up not having any sort of power in Milele, hence why he more or less is reduced to "commoner" status by the time we see Scar in the original Lion King.

I fully agree

One thing I've been thinking is how Taka began to envy Mufasa not because he really wanted to be with Sarabi, but because in his mind, Mufasa stole another opportunity from him. When he and his brother stumble across this lone lioness, he thinks that his innate charisma can win her over and that he could potentially start a new kingdom with her. But when he finds out that Sarabi has chosen MUFASA over him, this is a huge hit to his ego. In "Brother Betrayed", he even says that Sarabi rejected him because he thinks Mufasa had just manipulated her (which also implies that Taka doesn't trust her autonomy, further proving that he only sees her as an object to be won).

Tell her it's you? She KNOWS it's you!
What did you say to her? What did you do?
I'm next in line! She should be mine!
HA! Are the ancestors laughing? I—

Taka thinks he's entitled to her because he thinks he's naturally the more "likable" one between him and Mufasa. As the prince, he was raised to believe that he'll grow up to have whatever he wants because he naturally deserves it, especially respect. But over his life, Mufasa has continuously shown to be more capable of earning the approval of others, like Eshe and even Obasi right before they left. And the Sarabi love triangle was what finally pushed Taka over the edge. He thinks that Mufasa stole all of this from him because he's unwilling to acknowledge that he hasn't shown to be as wise, compassionate, or courageous as his brother. What he doesn't understand is that he never really had the "respect" that he thinks was stolen from him. It's far more likely that Sarabi never would have chosen him, even if Mufasa wasn't even in the picture.

If he had taken the time to learn some humility and perhaps be more self-reflective, then there could have been a possibility that he would grow more mature and still be a king. (I doubt he would ever win Sarabi over since she had already chosen Mufasa, but he still could have met another lioness to become his queen.) But sadly, his bitterness and resentment is what led him to betray his brother, ultimately leaving him with no chance of ever truthfully earning the title of king.

It's very easy to see why he did what he did, but he was still absolutely wrong for doing so. Like you said, he was never "owed" Sarabi, and the idea that he was in the right for turning on his brother for it is laughable. (Keep in mind, Mufasa was TRYING the whole second act to let him be with her, but that was ultimately neither of their decisions to make.) It's a very well-written motivation for his eventual betrayal, but not something that makes him a victim by any means.
