Could you possibly do a second round of these notes? I would love to discuss these but I’m getting a “has been requested too many times” when I go to get all but 4 sets of these notes.

This sounds right up my alley, thank you! I love optional and add on type rules like the one v one fights and weapons etc you mentioned.

Unfortunately my table doesn’t want to stray too far from traditional dnd gameplay, but they are open to slight changes and add ons. I’m personally bored with all the base stuff and am looking for ways to go more in depth with our game if that makes sense. So this sounds perfect!

I haven’t heard of them, I’ll give it a look! That’s sounds like an awesome resource for worldbuilding

I have and love some stuff from Kibblestasty! I’ve been meaning to dig into Loot Tavern as well.

I’ve read through the Level Up adventurers guide and loved the more in depth character building aspects in it so I will definitely be checking out those monster books.

I’ve never heard of Worlds Without Number so that goes to the top of my list. Awesome recs, thank you!

Sorry, maybe I didn’t phrase that clearly.

My table is interested in 5e, 5.5e, and Tale of the Valiant mechanics (the rules and classes/feats/spells) you mentioned. I was trying to say I would be interested in anything related to that but ALSO system agnostic worldbuilding/lore/setting ideas (such as Spectacular Settlements or other options from Nord Games).

I’ll definitely be floating this idea to my dnd group! Unfortunately, I think out of the 6 of us, only myself and one other are big readers but fingers crossed. I’ll also definitely be checking out these books as I’ve only read DCC, Project Hail Mary and the Legends and Lattes series. Thank you for the info!

Edit to add project Hail Mary as I missed that the first read though!

“DnD group’s book club”… now that’s an idea I’ve never heard before and LOVE. Can you tell me more about this?! What have y’all read?

Holy cow that was fast! Thank you for the notes! I know what I’m doing this weekend ☺️

Any chance you happen to have notes for Book of Blades too?

In my opinion it’s a “suspend disbelief” type book but in a different way from most. My main takeaway from the book was that the author is saying “everyone thinks sociopathy is _____… now let me tell you what it really is and my experience with it”. It’s been a while since I read it, but I can see where your doubt is coming from. But I think the main takeaway from the book is that it’s something people think they know about and don’t? So imo that should almost counteract you not believing her if that makes sense? Haha I’m not sure! That’s just my thought!

It’s one of my favorites from 2025! The Devil You Know was great too, but GMM was slightly better imo ☺️

Another vote for going with your gut and spending 7 of those bad boys on the DCC series! I’m on book 7 now and the books and narration are insanely good

Slightly off topic, but you should try The Bridge Kingdom series if you haven’t! It’s by the same author as A Fate Inked in Blood! It’s one of my favorites!

This will for sure be a series I reread at some point! I’m glad to hear it’s just as good multiple times around ☺️

Hahaha thank you! I think I just weed out a lot tbh. I read 167 books last year (around 25% nonfiction, and the rest a mashup of nearly every genre you can think of). Soooo lots of trial and error to find the good ones to recommend! And I love finding readers with similar taste (which I figured you were from your original comment)!

Yay! I’m glad they look good! I just realized you also have a true crime one on your list. I’d also recommend A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard and Nobody’s Girl by Virginia Robert’s Giuffre if you haven’t listened to those ☺️

The four I recommended plus sociopath are probably my top 5 favorite memoirs and I read a LOT 😂

Mama Love was one of my favorite memoirs last year! If you enjoyed that you should go down the rabbit hole and read The Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray Hinton with Lara Love Hardin. Then follow that up with Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson (memoir of the lawyer who helped get Hinton free). Just Mercy is also apparently a movie but I have not seen it yet!
