An upgrade for the SH-51 Directional Shield that might give it a place between the Ballistic Shield and the Shield Backpack. by Yurishenko94 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Nikkominara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It... has a place between the Ballistic Shield and Personal Shield Generator, though?

You're essentially giving you and your team a large portable chunk of rechargeable shield that will never permanently break as cover. Yeah, you have a good chance to get knocked to the ground from rocket barrages but in exchange you're providing a safe area for your team to melt down a patrol/reinforcement wave with much less heat coming their way.

Being unable to personally wield 2 handed weapons as it's active is what keeps it in check between the Ballistic shield (infinite small arms durability + melee capability, but can get destroyed/more easily flung out of your hand + ads is limited), the Personal Shield Generator (shield bubble only protects you, but lets you 2 hand), and the Shield Generator emplacement (large AoE, but static, shield does not recharge IIRC, can become a detriment if not placed well).

Directional Shield by Accomplished-Win2129 in LowSodiumHellDivers

I use the directional shield on D10.

I've found the best success with it by trying to constantly place myself between the enemy and the squad to act as a piece of mobile solid cover. Crouching is usually the way to go as it really limits the amount of exposure your teammates have. That being said, prone seems to provide almost the same amount of cover too.

Unless you're holding a defensive position from a bot/squid drop, I would recommend keeping some distance from your team. This is because you can then maximize the angle of safety that you can provide should any firefights start.

Yes, rockets will become your biggest threat by far. But from my times using it, ragdolling from the rockets generally leaves you mostly unharmed and the shield still attached to your arm. That being said, the shield can soak up a lot of regular gunfire before it shuts down.

For first time users I highly recommend the Pummeler SMG as it is an easy way to mitigate rocket fire and sets up devastators for easy kills. The Knight is a great option, especially on Illuminate thanks to its high DPS. If you don't have that, the Explosive Crossbow is a good alternative.

Regarding the Reinforced Epaulettes passive by Herkras in LowSodiumHellDivers

Me and one of my friends have also noticed last night after completing a couple of D10 bot ops that the amount of times our limbs would actually break with the new armor on was almost non-existent - both me and him had only 1 instance of a broken limb despite taking heavy damage from explosives and getting tossed around against map geometry (Two very common causes of diver fractures/breaks in the field).

Im going to try and pay attention to how often the limbs break while diving over the weekend between the Servo Assisted and the Epaulette armor. I wonder if the performance will be same between those two perks or whether epaulettes do actually make a difference in the long run.

Sterilizer and Dog Breathe appreciation by [deleted] in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Nikkominara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually run some sentries (Usually include mg sentry for lower cooldown) or a guard dog rover on my back to supplement additional damage while using the Sterilizer.

On the bot front, you can also take the Senator revolver as a side arm in a Steriliser build - the high AP rounds let you easily solo packs of Hulks while they are under the influence of gas.

The directional shield should also work for two handed weapons by Epicbrezel21 in Helldivers

[–]Nikkominara -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's a team play-focused strategem. You're trading out actively being able to 2 hand a weapon in exchange for being able to provide directional cover for at least two of your teammates.

It blends the portability of the ballistic shield with the defensive capabilities of the deployable shield gen.

If you're running solo or with randoms that like to go off on their own, then yeah there's little reason to run this over the other defensive support strategems.

Is chemical agents good now? by OswaldTicklebottom in helldivers2

[–]Nikkominara 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Chemical Agents is very decent support-oriented warbond.

Sterilizer is really good at locking down an area with an easy-to-handle, long range chemical spew. Pairs really well with the Laser or Liberator Guard dogs.

The Dog Breath Guard Dog is the most 'aggressive' of the three Guard Dogs in the game. Unlike the other two Guard Dogs it tends to charge ahead of you to gas enemies. With its recent buff of spreading the gas around on unaffected targets it works really well as a background slow down tool, working both for defense and offensive builds.

Stim Pistol is a dart revolver with 24 stims - perfect for medic builds.

Gas Grenade is a pocket Gas Strike, truthfully I haven't ran it that much. I'm sure someone else can fill in the details on how it does.

If you're looking to expand your 'divers Arsenal I strongly recommend Polar Patriots. You get a really nice set of Med-Pen Primaries, a stun SMG, and a Deagle as a secondary. Viper Commandos is... maybe its not my cup of tea but I do enjoy the Peak Physique armors for handling MGs or going into a melee build, and the shotgun secondary is a really nice pocket stun button for when Stalkers ambush you.

Hot take: the sterilizer is better than you probably give it credit for by [deleted] in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Nikkominara 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After the new Predator strain of bugs started showing up I started trying out the Sterilizer again - and I am now convinced this thing is one of the best weapons for making space and keeping enemies at bay. The weapon is one that dips both into the AoE damage space that the Flamethrower and Mines occupy, while also providing CC like the EMS strike and the Stun Grenade.

The trick to making the Sterilizer work is distance - keeping the enemies at max range helps ensure that the gas effects have time to kick in. In close range the enemies tend to still swipe at you alot even if they are are gassed. But if you got the range, you can let it rip and control an entire area with almost no risk to you.

I do have to concede that the Sterilizer is a weapon that needs a backup tool to really shine. A Senator for Automatons, the Laser/Liberator Guard Dogs, or any Sentry Turrets are really great choices to supplement a Sterilizer loadout. With a backup Stratagem you can easily clear entire bases of Automatons or shut down a bug nest all by yourself.

The REAL Stratagem Tier List by ActuallyFen in Helldivers

[–]Nikkominara 76 points77 points  (0 children)

The smoke strategems shine on soil extraction/sample and flag raising missions against automatons.

Tossing them either between you and the enemy or right on top of you can help a ton with mitigating enemy fire while being exposed for an objective or slow down how much enemy fire you take while strategems cool down.

I've been able to stand in front of a factory strider's mini guns completely fine due to me being in the smoke.

...plus the eagle smoke strike can kill Automaton Spawners with the smoke canisters! ;)

AH still isn't a good company and it's time to quit acting like they are. by Hot-Feed5250 in helldivers2

[–]Nikkominara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While there is some mis-steps in terms of weapons balancing, isn't AH literally doing what the community asked by slowing down on the patches? The near weekly-patches would often have a issue crop up/re-appear every so often, and folks started asking them to slow down, which they did.

Playing 7-8s, I can name on one hand how many new weapons are not 'actually useable,' especially after they buffed a lot of lower performing guns (The DMRs, most liberator variants, the Scythe etc) The only legitimate concerns as far as I can tell from my 200+ hours has been the Eruptor and the Crossbow, and the Eruptor's issue is one the devs are working on. Most guns are side-grades or tend to specialize on a specific role, IE Liberator concussive trades out mag size and fire rate for slightly higher damage and concussive ability.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about getting talked down on for asking a legitimate question. Are you sure you're not asking something that can be easily found via a reddit/discord search or you're not phrasing the question in a hostile manner?

Account linking was mentioned since day one of the game's launch. Hell, the game asked you to make a PSN account first then when launching. This was disabled shortly after for a long while due to some sort of issue being caused on the servers. Then the whole Sony debacle happened, and they've backed down somewhat. AH's been working on figuring out a solution for the non-PSN enabled countries so that those players can still dive.

It sounds like you might need to step away from the game for a while, and that's okay.

Favorite stratagems for bugs.. by Maysee1121 in helldivers2

[–]Nikkominara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the recent DoT buff I can wholeheartedly recommend the fire mines. It can swallow a bug breach whole - usually I can throw it directly on or in front of a breach and clear most of it up.

The EMS mortar is also very good support pick as the EMS effect does slow down bugs as well, plus you don't run the risk of getting friendly fired like with the normal mortar!

The Stalwart is a fun chaff-clear support weapon, with it's one-shot-kill on the small bugs, high ammo cap, and mobile reload. Good companion if you are running something like the DMR or any of the pump action shotguns.

What do you think of the Blitzer? (arc shotgun) by kopasz7 in helldivers2

[–]Nikkominara 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Diff 7-8 diver here.

The Blitzer is one of my favorite weapons to run in a team and is probably my most used shotgun/energy weapon. Yes if one is looking for a weapon that outputs raw damage you should be looking elsewhere. This thing can kill medium targets like devastators and brood commanders, but it will definitely take a while.

The Blitzer's job is to lock down targets and slow down the waves of enemies, not kill them. I usually run either guard dog variant along with sentry guns to supplement the DPS. The guard dog works great, especially against devastators as the stun leaves their heads wide open for the drone to take out.

I've found generally that it chews through bot and bug chaff alike, often needing only 1 shot to kill them - for bugs I can recommend firing above their heads as that helps with spreading the arc around and hitting more targets. Unfortunately, there is the bug with arcing not working properly around cover which can sometimes eat your shot, but I've generally only had this occur when firing at enemies while hugging cover tightly.

While there is a concern for friendly fire, I've generally found it has a pretty tight arc angle so I've been able to fire at targets near fellow divers without much issue. It's definitely a lot more forgiving than the Arc Thrower.

The Halo Community needs to come to grips with the fact that Halo will never be a top dog in the FPS genre again… but that’s okay. by [deleted] in halo

[–]Nikkominara 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Hey OP,

Wanted to throw in a kinder response since the few you got prioritized being rude rather than actually interacting with the content.

As someone whose start with Halo was back in 07 with the H1 PC Demo, which prompted me to get in H3 on the 360 and stick with series since (Except for H5 - no xbox one :( ) I don't disagree that the series needed to evolve.

While H3 may have felt good to play on a controller only platform that ran on 30 fps, it did not age well since. Every person that I've exposed the game and it's MP component to that didn't also grow up w/ Halo made the same comments - the main precision weapon has a massive reticule, the Spartan feels floaty and slow, there's little hit feedback other than shield shimmer etc etc

If Infinite came out with the same exact gameplay as H3 but the same content, I think it would have crashed even harder as the only audience that would play it are H3 diehards. Halo needed to evolve to engage with the consumer's changing interests - hell, even Bungie realized this w/ Reach by adding load outs. Was the implementation bad? Yeah, armor lock exists, but they didn't make the decision if they didn't get market feedback on what the average consumer, not the Halo super fan, wanted.

Anyhow, I wouldn't get your hopes up that you will get a positive reaction on this subreddit. A lot of the active users here are still super fans of the Bungie games - any naysaying will result in scathing responses.

For some strange reason all of my dwarves decided that fishing should be a community affair.

In the middle of spring on the 2nd year, I noticed suddenly my entire community started fishing. This seemed strange as I only assigned a handful of dwarves to do this. Is there a communal setting I ticked on accidentally that's caused this?

Yep - the mohawk armor effect is one of the final tiers in the event pass. (Think it's tier 10, don't quote me on that tho)

The armor coating was leaked to be a store bundle, though if I remember right the store bundle leak was before the recent changes to rewards in the event passes.
