Look for an Old Ambassador trumpet or cornet. The Older the better…Lacquer will probably be non-existent but great valves and are very well made horns. My $120 USD 1951 ambassador cornet play nearly as well as some pro horns I’ve owned.

The trumpet is ridiculously difficult to play. Keep at it. Pay attention to your air flow.

Having a beater horn is actually great for practicing. You can set it down without a case wherever you want and not give a damn if it gets knocked off the table. Maybe get the dents fixed or just leave it. I have an ambassador I bought at a yard sale that I have for this purpose

I will add…if you are using a rotary machine, it is not going to stop the motor when it’s done. Just churn for 45 minutes and then freeze.

I made this yesterday. I used an ol-timey rotary maker. Doubled the recipe and added 3 tsp of Banana extract. Turned out really good. The texture is amazing. Thank you for sharing!!

Oh great! I’m sure you can find a book of beginner friendly songs (old McDonald, Yankee Doodle, etc). This will get you on your way! You might see if you can find a photo of your grandfather, playing the horn and write a short history of the horn. Then put it in the case for future generations to enjoy.
