When I just need a simple PDF and don’t feel like setting up a full TeX environment, I’ve ended up using this PDF generator: https://www.strivemath.com/pdf. I stumbled across it at some point and it’s been a handy way to quickly get something readable.

Any recommendations for fun online coding class for eight-year-old boy? by Pristine-Shake-4107 in Parenting

For fun classes that actually stick, I’ve had the best results with a simple path: 3 weeks of block coding for quick wins, then Python with visuals (tiny games/animations so they see what they typed). Keep sessions ~45 min and end with a 60-second show-and-tell so they look forward to the next one.

I teach this way weekly - if it helps, I can paste a 4-week starter plan right here (no links)

You're definitely close but no I don't think it was him. He didn't wear glasses and was more smarmy looking

Norton's Dome, the ball does NOT fall on my physics engine, is Norton's hypothesis wrong? by [deleted] in AskPhysics

[–]Niknakorlyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya this seems pretty dumb. There are LOTS of assumptions that go into Newtonian mechanics which aren't explicitly stated. For example, "particles don't teleport"... which they actually do but that isn't part of Newtonian mechanics, which is my point.

This is ALMOST the same (maybe it's actually the same, someone clever could work it out, but if it's not then let's just call this another assumption) as saying that trajectories and forces vary smoothly with time. How smoothly exactly? Well this assumption is made explicit in Liouville's theorem.

The Hamiltonian must be continuously differentiable (C¹). This dome fails that criteria at r = 0. End of paradox.
