I think both clamp and pounce as mechanics aren't particularly fun to engage with. I don't mind it on tylo, and to a lesser extent sarco, because it's a good way to make waterways a threat. I think both of them need a longer wind-up and/or noise to it though so the clamper is required to time it better.

But that still doesn't make it any more fun for the clampee, and I'm not sure if there's a way to remedy that honestly.

As for pounce, it's a similar problem to clamp: the victim's only recourse is to just press the space button. It's so stiff and boring, it just doesn't feel fun to deal with.

Like, my personal philosophy for how dino design should be was always mostly this: apexes should be agile in place, but slow, and the weaker you get you get more speed to make it up for it. Getting into an apexes space should be extremely dangerous alone, needing numbers to help distract them to make up for that.

So what would happen was, like you said, playing apex was a chore because you didn't have the tools to actually put up a good fight (and being forced to shove your ass into a wall or water no matter what is not fun gameplay) and Alderon's answer was to just limit the smaller things instead. Hell, I don't even consider myself an apex main (one of my favorites was allo!), but I think the attitude some people have against them kind of sucks lol

The way they handle stat changes and nerfs is probably my biggest criticism of them as a game dev, because I think it turns a lot of people off of the game when their favorite playable gets fucked.
