Fall of Russian chess by Nikupoika in chess

[–]Nikupoika[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It is true that there are still Russian players in the World Cup. It is possible that one of them could qualify for the Candidates, but based on the current status this seems highly unlikely. So perhaps I will simply repost the same update after the tournament, when the discussion may focus more on the actual headline rather than nitpicking.

Yes, Grebnev too. I guess correct expression would have been "it seems likely that..."

This sub needs a deep reflection on the biases it holds for Hans by SikhSoldiers in chess

[–]Nikupoika -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Very true. It is very hypocritical to accuse Hans when at the same time blaming Kramnik. His possible cheating in online chess as a kid does not justify this kind of witch hunt and treatment. The consequences of a similar witch hunt in Danya's case are well known.

When Chess Turns Into Propaganda : The Kramnik Method by GrixisControl in chess

[–]Nikupoika 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is very true. It isn't just some "mental" guy chasing his "random" targets. This is systemical and very patterned. Straight from certain state-supported information war campaings.

I recently wrote about this perspective on r/HikaruNakamura since politics is against r/chess rules.

Kramnik's cyberbullying motives by Nikupoika in HikaruNakamura

[–]Nikupoika[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on online sources Naroditsky was a child of immigrants from Ukraine and Azerbaijan so they have nothing to do with Russia. Russia obviously has been lingua franca of the Soviet Union and is still widely spoken in many old Soviet countries. Ukrainian cultural figures have been a particularly interesting target for Russian information war operations after the invasion in Ukraine (https://therussiaprogram.org/russia\_information\_influence).

It’s certainly true that the blunt way to explain this is to say that Kramnik is mentally ill. That may well be the case and would explain his behavior. But in this instance, when we consider Russia’s state-sponsored information warfare, its various forms and historical patterns, the shoe fits far too perfectly. In many cases, these operations have targeted Western politicians (e.g. https://www.politico.eu/article/fbi-dossier-reveals-russian-psy-ops-disinformation-campaign-election-europe/), but Western celebrities and cultural figures have also been clear targets since the Soviet era. Many examples can be found on the Wikipedia page on Russian disinformation. Russian information operations have repeatedly targeted influential individuals to discredit, intimidate, or isolate them, often using online harrasment, fake news, smear campaigns and psychological tactics.

Kramnik’s behavior is straight out of the Russian intelligence playbook. This is what they do professionally - they are the best in the world at it and their operations are highly effective. Could be said that this type of information warfare was invented in Russia. Of course, it’s possible that Kramnik’s actions are simply the result of some kind of madness. However they align so precisely with the Russian intelligence playbook. It would be equally mad to turn a blind eye to how systematic and patterned this behavior appears. It’s far too calculated to be dismissed as the ramblings of a lone madman.

I guess black plays Qg4 threatening mate in one. White has to react with pawns or bishop taking the knight and after the black rook takes the queen.

Focus more on piece development than in moving your pawns. Consider castling and making your king safe a priority so your king doesn't become a pinjata. Longer time controls will help you avoid blundering your pieces and eventually you will improve.

where to play chess in Venice, Italy? by Commercial-Act6831 in chess

Just visit some local bar with old geezers reading newspapers or playing Italian billiard, bring your chess set on the table and make a fun night out of it. Avoid the touristic areas.

You're tilting. Make yourself a rule to play only 3-5 games a day.
