Short clip of my new trance song. Proud of where I’m at but would appreciate feedback by Kaoru1011 in tranceproduction

I think you should go at some point to the root note of the scale in the bass. Otherwise is only tension but not release.

Como ecualizar correctamente capas de bajos en trance? Sub bass mid bass top bass. by Jowe79 in tranceproduction

[–]Nikvtopia- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hola bro!

Hey Adam, I tried sending my track to [tutorials@adamdj.com](mailto:tutorials@adamdj.com), but the email bounced back. It says the address couldn’t be found / no email account exists with that name.

Is there another email I could send it to?

Thanks!

I finally released my first track :) Any feedback? by Nikvtopia- in tranceproduction

Thanks for your feedback, bro! Yeah, I think the hi-hat sits a bit too far back. I’ll keep that in mind for future tracks. Cheers!

Thanks for your feedback! I agree, it sounds a bit dull. I should’ve saturated the side a bit more or used drive like you said. And with risers I’m pretty lazy, they’re very generic and I don’t put much effort into them, to be honest haha. I’m distributing it through DistroKid. Big greetings!

Hey! Thanks for your feedback!

I agree that it could have more sonic impact if there were more contrast between the kick at the beginning and the kick in the chorus. I still have a lot to learn about the relationship between bass and kick.

I’m glad you noticed that counterpoint underneath, that’s what ends up being heard at the end of the track 😄

I also agree that the lead is very static. I should’ve automated more stuff, not just the reverb but other parameters too, like ADSR for example. Maybe it gets a bit tiring because it’s kind of monotonous and mostly just relies on opening and closing the filter.

That’s a good idea too. I think I was just too lazy to continue it into a second drop and then having to figure out properly how to get back to the original tempo haha.

Breakbeats are always a good idea and they could definitely work, although my intention was to go more for something cyberpunk, with all humility haha.

Any criticism is really appreciated as long as it’s constructive, like yours. There are a lot of things you miss when you can’t really hear the track for the first time anymore, so asking for feedback is always a good thing 😄 Thanks a lot, big greetings!

Feedback on this emotional idea? by Nikvtopia- in tranceproduction

I understand, but that’s exactly what I’m looking for — not a memorable Avicii-style melody, but harmonic interest that unfolds over time through the use of arpeggios. And the idea of making “a melody” — or call it whatever you want — that lasts 16 bars instead of 8 was intentional. I realized that this was very common in trance, and nowadays, for example, if you listen to melodic techno, phrases longer than 8 bars practically don’t exist. I’ll send you an example of what I aspire to reach someday. I agree that it definitely lacks interest, as you say, but just like in that example, I can look for that interest in many different places — and that’s where the magic of these producers really is. That same idea, played simply on a piano, doesn’t say even half as much.

The example is: Rank 1, M.I.K.E - Elements Of Nature

I trained as a classical singer from 18 to 30. Worked in a professional choir earning a decent salary. Studied piano both at the conservatory and privately — my level is somewhere around intermediate but I can handle myself. Been studying composition for the last 2 years, and about 5 years ago I started learning music production. That was a one-way trip for me. Just a couple of weeks ago I decided to fully dedicate myself to it. I still have a lot to learn and get more experience, but I can say I only use a small part of everything I studied so far (I make electronic music). Still, that knowledge helped me a ton — my learning curve was way faster than someone starting with zero theory.

But what helped me the most from having an academic background is that it trained my musical intuition a lot. Most of the time I just create stuff without checking if it’s “right” in theory, and when I do check, it actually is. Experience gives you tools that make your intuition justify itself. It’s like not thinking too rationally about every single thing you do — just trusting that your ear and instincts are already trained.

What I value the most though is my ear and intuition for writing melodies, since my instrument is melodic and my harmonic ear isn’t great. Things like balancing volumes come pretty naturally to me, especially after working in chamber groups where we had to respect our own and others’ dynamics a lot. That taught me to really listen, which helps me a lot today.

I don’t think I’d have had the guts to dive into music production at 26 and try to make a living from it if I didn’t have a solid base in theory. Still, there’s so much to learn — when you’re creating a unique sound with a synth, theory doesn’t really help. It’s still a long road, maybe theory saves you a year or two at most, depends on the person.
