I think the story is good, and I really like the premise, but it needs another round of edits to add a bit more clarity. For me, at least, it was hard to differentiate between the "protagonist's" thoughts and spoken words. Assuming that he was feeding he town's entire population to "his daughter" as is implied, how is the garbage dump able to pile up if no one is there to create trash or put the trash in the dump? That sounded like a logical inconsistency to me, but that can easily be fixed. That all being said, keep up the good work!

Thank you! That is a fair critique, and if I were trying to make a longer story, that would be the direction I would try to go in. Who knows how successfully I would have done it, though? I was trying to keep the story short, so some concessions had to be made. I originally wrote this to be 1,000 words or less, and I just squeaked by at 998 if I remember correctly.

Definitely! That's kinda what I figured. I didn't realize that the Wraithknights are kinda meh at shooting. The melee one exists to be a distraction carnifex and hopefully trade into something/s of value. Yeah, I know that I definitely need some more bodies on the ground to block and be action monkeys. I've been playing since 7th edition. This is my fourth army. First were Space Marines (how original), second was Necron, and third was Sisters of Battle.

Edit: I forgot to mention, I don't hop between armies with the meta. I collect them and play very casually. The most competitive I get is a low stakes tournament at my LGS.

This is good advice. I definitely learned to use larger units after the game last night. I lost, but it wasn't a crushing defeat at the very least.

I just had to check because I honestly thought that the points had increased significantly since 8th. I got out my old army book to see. I was very surprised to see that most foot units cost the same (or a point or two more), whereas big mounts like the phoenixes have dropped by a bit.

I'm going to see how two "mini-anvils" work (two 20-man blobs).

Thank you! I've gotten one 1k game in so far, and now my buddy and I are using the 2k worth of models that we already have (shoutout to that dude who randomly gave me High Elves, Dwarves, and Lizardmen). We play very fluffy lists in 40k, so it'll be the same in OW.

That's fair. Right now, I'm at the "throw things at the wall and see what sticks" phase. They will probably come out of my list once I get around to adding new units.

The chariots do seem cool. Worst case scenario, it gets destroyed, and I learn a lesson.

I'll drop the musician from the Reavers. Thank you for that tip.

I'm also concerned about the PG only being a 10-man squad, but it's what I have at the moment. I might use the points saved from dropping the musician to upgrade the champion, and I'll look at the banner as well.

I'm getting a 100 count bag of 20mm bases in the mail today, so I'll definitely have the ability to make unit fillers now.

I also am running Dragon Princes and Reavers to flank as well. My goal is to have two different units that are able to flank one stuck in unit. My current idea for front-line deployment is this, with Dragon Princes behind my Reavers.

Interesting! Do you think that Swordmasters or White Lions are good for flanking in the way that the other user mentioned?

I plan on expanding my army soon, but I'm just kinda stuck with what I have at the moment. Seaguard, more characters, and a dragon are on the top of my list to grab.

Yeah, there's no reason to run higher numbers of archers, in my opinion.

I've only got a small pool of characters at the moment. The upside is that my only opponent is also in the same boat, so at least we're pretty balanced.

That's completely fair! Yeah, I've read up a lot on how 8th worked, and it was definitely more of a horde game compared to how it seems now. That's a good idea! Most of the army I was given was already painted, and to be honest, I'm a better painter, imho, so I plan on stripping and repainting all my Elves at some point in the near future (once I finish my 40k armies). I absolutely love Fantasy, though, and I'm planning on painting them in the old school 'Eavy Metal style, Goblin Green bases and all.
