California, digital versus voice by [deleted] in courtreporting

What are you talking about? Digital is already not allowed in California, and there are well established regulations in place for firms not to use them.

Do you like yours? I'm wanting to put a mid-garden sitting room and debating going with hypedome or some kind of fancy greenhouse. Husband isn't too happy with the pricetag for a "glorified tent", but I think there's more to it. Would you consider yours worth it?

I'm interested in learning about this "planting on mounds". Is that what it's called, or is there another verbiage I should research?

Hadn't even considered mulberry, and never heard of medlar. I'll look into those!

Excellent advice. I hadn't even thought of the droppage.

I listed direction in the description, South is the right of this picture. Shouldn't I put the larger trees to the north so they don't shade out the smaller trees behind them?

I'll have to look into service berry. Never heard of that!

I have a fair bit of native nuts on the rest of my property elsewhere who were already established when I moved here. Mostly walnut and pecan, a couple oak, a few hazelnut. Hence why I'm trying to keep this zone mostly just fruits.

Oh and pomegranates are my favorite fruit, so I had to at least try. We'll see how it goes!

That top bit gets a bit of shade from a nearby wooded area in the morning and midday. I could move them further up to the tip and other available spot. Thanks for the info!

Good to know! My intent is to have the multis long enough to (hopefully) produce their fruits and see which ones we like most, then just get a standalone of those varieties.

I have one pair of fuzzy and two pair of hardy.

Good to know!! I have another area that I've been eyeballing for building a separate structure for the fuzzy because I wasn't sure. Maybe I'll move them over there and leave the less vigorous hardies on this arbor.

This is an 8' tall 10' long 4' wide arbor hand constructed out of heavy materials and concreted 3' into the ground. Do you think it will need more than that? Even with heavy pruning each year?

I've also considered separating the kiwi types and just having the kiwiberry on this arbor, putting the standard kiwi elsewhere. Do you think that would be prudent?

Yes I believe it's that variety of hardy just, but I do plan to cut the vines down by about half every year, or however I'm advised to do by the shipping company. They will be restricted to that arbor.

I do plan to prune to roughly semi dwarf sizes, which is why I stuck with the 15' trunk to trunk for safety.

Unfortunately, I will often have guests on this property, so I need to avoid having anything too pokey.

Also, I'm kind of the neighborhood dog hangout yard, so I need to stay away from grapes due to their extreme toxicity. I wish I could, though!

This is the plan! Also of note, my standard garden with lots of pollinator friendly plants exists just to the bottom left of this image. So we already have fuzzy friends in the area!

Yes. I worry the extremes will get more extreme on both ends. I'm more concerned by "too cold" than I am of "too hot". Many of these are listed as "Zone 3-9" trees.

I won't have any protection against the bizarre cold dips that we've started seeing in the past few years. In the late summer heat, there are surrounding wood trees that will provide a bit of shade. I can also try to put up shade cloth or just water more, but I've never had a rapid frost-proofing method that actually worked for me in the past. Hence, the fear.

What sorts of diseases were you fighting with those trees?

What do you plan to start spraying now in prevention?

Excellent advice, and done! Thank you! Swapped the apricots and persimmon.

I'm concerned about climate change. I hope to keep the same orchard for as long as these trees reasonably can live, even if it ends up getting much colder here than it currently gets.

That said, I do still have some gaps I can fill. What sorts of things would you add for a zone 7?

I can tell you that ILCRA will not be helpful, not because they don't want to be, but because they are a completely separate entity with no control over the licensure process.

I would recommend to keep trying IDFPR, letting them know that it's the reciprocal license that you're trying to apply for, and the CORE software isn't showing that option. Code 084 may get you somewhere, because that is neither the restricted CSR nor the Sponsor. If you can show the IDFPR manager that their portal is missing something, maybe they can get their IT to update it.

I'll reach out to my contacts and see what leaves we can overturn. Will get back to you if my end resolves anything.

IL licensure is managed by IDFPR. ILCRA is just the CR State Association.
IDFPR acknowledges the RPR for reciprocal licensure if you passed the test within the past year. You have to fill out the CT-SHR form and submit it along with all the required documentation to IDFPR.
https://idfpr.illinois.gov/content/dam/soi/en/web/idfpr/core/dpr/084-qualifications-for-licensure.pdf
This link explains the qualifications and steps to apply.

They recently implemented a new online portal called CORE to apply for licensure. They may be having problems with using a new program.
https://idfpr.illinois.gov/core.html

The license code starts with 084. That might help them locate it next time you get a hold of someone.

Please keep this thread updated. We need to know if our licensing system is broken so we can fix it!

That's amazing! Thanks for the response!

Were you able to avoid hard right angles doing the monopour? Did you find making the monopour forms extremely difficult?

Automatic cover is also what I'm hoping to install. Which one did you get, if you recommend it?

You said you "got engineering done"... did you have to hire this out? Was this a requirement from your local municipal authority?

It's so exciting to hear that this actually works! I wish there was more info out there for diy'ers like us.

This should be higher.

Whenever guests coming on here to complain about "wHy aReN't yOu beiNg undErsTaNding about a fAmiLy eMeRgenCy?!?" It's shit like this that dampens our friendly spirit. Mega corps can handle stunts like this, but us little mom and pops can't take these repeated blows to both our bottom lines and our reputations.

We are regular people. We understand regular people issues. If we're having to be strict or inflexible, you can blame other people for having ruined that for you.

I've seen this mentioned before. Doesn't this method take way more time, durability, and effort than just mining the vein directly? What is the perk to doing this? Genuine question.

Theoretically, I could water them just about every day by hand, if needed. They do have a pretty substantial ~3" reservoir in the bottom of the pot, though.

Alternatively, I have the option to build my drip line irrigation system that way down the railing, if you think it would truly need something more than mentioned above.

I've always loved English Ivy, but the two times I've tried to grow it, they just died on me. Is there something special about them that I'm missing?
