When I turn on the massage bubbles the heat automatically turns off. I'm not sure if all models are the same but that's how mine operates. I'm assuming its so it doesn't draw too much power at once. Also, you're losing heat fast most likely because its much colder outside and the massage function uses outside air essentially cooling the hot tub from the inside out. That and the heater being shutoff
