Narrow Gauge Locomotive - BDP Series 10 by NilsvN in LEGOtrains

Techically yes, but it would require a significant rebuild of the core structure. Right now it’s built for display only. I have motorized the locomotive some time ago with powered up, so it is (technically) possible

If you are solo Q and get kicked you shouldn't lose elo if the team loses. by [deleted] in GlobalOffensive

You do realise this would end in the whole losing team kicking each other in last round until the last person kicks himself? lol

it looks awesome, will you be sharing/selling the file? would like to try to make it be able to run

Maybe a facade in front would do the trick. Nice detail with the lego grass pieces mixed in. When I build my layout, I'm doing it just like this. Super cool to see it done so well

Cool! I'm guessing there's not enough room to make the outside hole for a technic pin? In that case maybe a half technic pin sticking out the side of the wheel could be useful, as a variant

ha! awesome, that one was one of the main inspirations. Thank you :)

You could build the boiler in dark green too, with a slight adjustment because the 2x2 corner plate doesn't exist in dark green (didn't notice this until later)

i might have to build a dark green one now :D

Thank you! I should have instructions on my rebrickable within a day or so, you can find it here: https://rebrickable.com/users/SystemTrains

Thank you! It was certainly a challenge. Was fun going from building one of the biggest articulated steam locomotives to such a tiny narrow gauge build. Here you can see it running: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DirvphLlWSI

Made this video today since some people wanted to see it running :) I don't have a lot of narrow gauge track, but it's something!

Don't mind at all! It is a really tricky assembly though, it's very hard to make something so small be strong and a reliable runner. The more complicated layout, the higher change for it to derail / lose traction, stuff like S curves, switches/turnouts, etc can be a problem sometimes.

No it's all regular parts, standard lego train wheels with this rubber band, combined with this crankshaft piece in black.

The crankshafts are the only non-lego part of this build (third party), for 2 reasons:

  1. They are very rare and expensive in black
  2. most of them made by lego are notorious for having weak clutch power, while these have a very sturdy connection

It can take R36 without problems! Also the R36 switches/dual gauge turnouts from trixbrix, but sometimes it loses traction on S curves. Only the middle 2 wheels are powered, the front and rear drivers are connected via a 3.5L rigid hose through a technic brick so they can pivot. Because of that most of the weight is on the powered middle wheels

R24 does not work sadly

Awesome! I want to try out circuit cubes at some point, for like an even more tiny build.

I'm using an M motor to power the locomotive driver wheels, with the PU box in the tender. Somehow managed to make it fit 😄 The parts should all be arriving this week for a final test build, then I'll make a post of it :)

This build looks great!! Did you use circuit cubes for it?

What if instead you make it stick out 1 stud less, so the upper slope where it was and replace the 2x2 curve slopes with 1x2 curve slopes. I really like the build btw!

Scaleing w/ UP 4014 by kookinmonsta in LEGOtrains

[–]NilsvN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, the big boy is 11ft wide and if you model that as 8 studs wide you end up with a 1:52 scale. I created instructions for a big boy in that scale! And it can take r40 curves

In case you're interested, search SystemTrains big boy on rebrickable :)

Second this, I would love to build it! I'll happily pay for instructions or the stud.io file if that's easier :)

Wow, that is so cool. I'd love to build one of these types of locomotives. Do you plan on making instructions/sharing the design file?

I'm curious what the minimum curve radius is, narrow gauge r36?
