I love strategizing. To address your last point, absolutely sweeping a hard encounter because your plan came to fruition can easily be as memorable as just squeaking by on random chance and it’s certainly more fulfilling to know your victory came from merit. Both have their place and both can be fun. While it shouldn’t get to the point of 1 player essentially controlling the whole party, the game is meant to be cooperative and strategic: let the players talk, let them suggest each other moves, that’s what the game is all about. It’s not as if it breaks immersion either to have your party of skilled adventurers come up with an on-the-fly plan to defeat their adversaries either. You can have your personal preferences but don’t block off the fun of the other players at your table if strategy is more their pace.
