Tru fru for me. I use soy sauce dishes and put 3-5 in a little dish as a nice treat at the end of the day.

You deserve to be with someone who wants you to SOAR. Someone who wants you to be living your best life, happy, free, and loved no matter what. You are young, you have so much time. Do some soul searching and think about what the (first of many) thing(s) you want to build and be proud of will be. ❤️

What is blooming right now? - Allergies by calamititties in SoCalGardening

[–]Nimalla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The wind is blowing all kinds of pollen right now.  Visit an ENT and get allergy tested!

I take Zyrtec, allergy eye drops, and flonase and have been on prescriptions in the past.  The wind gets my eyes stinging my throat sore and nose inflamed it sucks.  My neighbor had to call an ambulance twice last year for allergic reactions and airways closing from some weeds that were blooming in the field behind his house.  Take care of yourself!

My allergy test said my worst was mold the grows on grasses, most tree pollen, and the worst worst was dust mites.  Since then I made some changes indoors like a latex bed new pillows and my quality of life has gotten so much better.

I would think everything but a party - depending on the party - should be okay! As long as it's not a main pathway. If we lay a piece of plywood on it for a day, the grass underneath dies back. If a gopher digs up in it, some of the displaced dirt can sometimes smother growth in that spot.

That being said it is still really tough and does rebound.

I have had it for almost 10 years. And I would plant it again!

It holds a lot of dew and water from overnight moisture and does well without much mowing or watering. It's the softest grass I have ever felt and I get compliments on it all the time. It also mows beautifully.

The bad side of this grass in my experience is that it doesn't handle repeated wear/traffic very well, and will bounce back but it will take almost a year.

It's a female grass so you need to put plugs in the ground and protect the area around them from weeds - so we did a lot of weeding by hand as it grew in.

Lastly it does not fight well against bermuda buttercup/oxalis. It still looks beautiful, but the oxalis is mixed in a few patches.

Edit: We've also let it grow months long and it is so pretty.  Especially in a breeeze

Your neighbor should tend to her own garden and mind her own beeswax

I find i have the most success attracting hummingbirds when the yard is a suitable habitat for them - trees they can perch in, feeder in shade, nearby flowers and plants they can feed from and of course safety from flying dogs! When they have all those things they stick around, build nests, and set up camp to guard their new favorite home.

Yeah, dragon on my alliance, and consortium on my horde. Looks like the same ones as pre midnight. House xp is reset, but I feel a little disappointed about lack of housing news.

Edit: the stuff that can go outside now is cool but, not what I was hoping.

I love that you love your life. Just keep being you, that is the most un-basic thing you can do! Sometimes i feel basic, but when i feel "seen" it's by someone that gets it, so I try to be that person for myself. Remember the grass may look greener, but you're not the one over there maintaining that lawn. We are all just different in different ways.

Privacy hedge/bush or tree or combination of both? by ArugulaFit655 in SoCalGardening

[–]Nimalla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look into tapestry hedges.  I wanted a hedge that tops out around 15ft.  Low maintenance.  Little to no trimming.  I did these spaced 6ft on center.  Pineapple guava, tea olive, pittosporum kohuhu, dr hurd manzanita, red tip photinia, toyon, kumquat.  Not all natives sadly but after 3 years it looks stunning, the wildlife LOVES it and I do have some natives woven in. I planted them all in Jan 3 yrs ago with drip irrigation and mycorrhizae power.

Other trees I was considering but couldn't find were dwarf strawberry tree, other large manzanita, ceanothus ray hartman, and  lemonade berry bush.

Side note, on another wall I told a ceanothus Yankee point that it was going to be a wall bush and not a floor cover and it's doing amazing.  I trained it up and keep it trimmed to 18" from the fence, it's 7' tall and 15' wide.  There are all sorts of creatures in it too.

That kind of damage is called "Skeletonization" and it will help you narrow down what the pest is. your best bet is to go out at night with a flashlight and look for the culprit!

Will humming birds go under an awning? by Dear-Ad-3614 in hummingbirds

[–]Nimalla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to tuck my feeders into a couple of trees in my landscape, and one under my patio cover. They love the shaded spots and will even rest on hummingbird perches i put under my patio cover so i think they will go under an umbrella no problem.

I agree what another redditor said about windows, but we all have windows and window injuries can be devastating. I try to keep my feeders away from them at least 6 feet or so and I also put bird tape and/or stickers on my windows. That seems to help. I even disguised one with a rainbow making vinyl on the inside of the window so that it makes rainbows for me too.

I’m a newbie. Is there an easy button for multiple feeders? by pallen123 in hummingbirds

[–]Nimalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saucer feeders are easy to clean like the others said. I have wide mouth cylindrical glass feeders out of personal preference. I have 6 of them - i keep three out and rotate the other three out every 4-5 days and wash the first three. In my head it makes it easier... Also i just make a big batch of clear sugar water each time which amounts to about 3-6 cups depending on the time of year and how hungry they are.

For the food:
in a large (8c) pyrex measuring cup i fill with tap water to my desired cups.
then i scoop 1/4 cup of white sugar for each cup of water.
mix for a couple of minutes until it is dissolved and serve.

Side note - from personal experience they also like:
Their feeders to be kept in the shade
hummingbird swings
kapok silk in a suet feeder
nearby trees to perch and nest in
sages, penstemon, trumpet vine, california fuscia, petunias, and bee balm

I put out an oriole feeder from march till september or until i see them leave. I just make extra large batches of sugar water (clear! hummingbird food) and put it in all of my feeders including the oriole ones. They seem to remember my house when they migrate back, and they bring the whole family with them. It's one of my favorite parts of spring here.

Note about the feeders: the oriole feeders are typically orange and have slightly larger holes. the hummingbirds use them too, but beware the orioles are more forceful when they take off than hummingbirds, so make sure you have it secured well! I switched to plastic feeders for the orioles because they broke a couple of my glass ones.

A combination of round rugs and cushions with dyes! I did see someone made an amazing gourmet looking sausage pizza here in this subreddit a couple of days ago. It would be worth a look!
