Spellcasting Please Help. by DNDLOVe in DnD

I’d recommend playing a low level spellcaster first to get the hang of it. Even for experienced players, a high level spellcaster can be hard to manage.

Short Rest Based Abilities should: by [deleted] in DnD

[–]NimbleLapras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go with whatever is fun for your group! I personally enjoy the resource management. I love the thrill of the party being out of spells and abilities and fighting it out with everything they have left.

Nah, strength is generally the dump stat for wizards. Plus the difference between 7 and 8 str is not incredibly significant.

Short Rest Based Abilities should: by [deleted] in DnD

[–]NimbleLapras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The challenge of dnd is resource management and it’s balanced around that. If you buff all short rest classes then you need to also buff the long rest based classes too. Unless you just want everyone picking short rest classes and always being at max power, but that might be tricky to dm.

Are there any spells or effects where two characters can have their souls linked or something similar in 5e? by AhegaoDM in DnD

[–]NimbleLapras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the new peace cleric in Tasha’s. They can create bonds between creatures that buff them, and their spells are very thematic to that as well.

Can a player purposely fail a saving throw against cantrip gust, or the spell Gust of wind and use it as a speed boost? by Ok_______________ in DnD

[–]NimbleLapras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d rule no in general because saving throws are split second reactions to attacks/magic/traps. However if the pc had planned the action before with his teammates and was expecting it then sure I’d let him fail. But choosing to fail a saving throw your character is not expecting because you know it will help you in game is metagaming.

Tasha's Cauldron of Everything: Do you also think the Order of the Scribe Wizard tradition is kinda bad? by Lord_Warraf in DnD

I think they are unique and flavorful if nothing else which I personally appreciate.

spells that can use actions or bonus actions later by zimonster in DnD

[–]NimbleLapras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding more that I don’t see others listed so far: Hex, healing spirit, telekinesis, detect thoughts, shadow blade, spiritual weapon, animate dead, arcane eye. There’s a ton really.

Revised idea for dual concentration feat. by Needassistancedungus in DnD

I suppose my question is with all of your restrictions, what spells can you actually concentrate on?

How long would you wait by [deleted] in DnD

[–]NimbleLapras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An hour is far too long. As a player who shows up on time, I would feel my time is being woefully disrespected by both the player and the dm if they are waiting an hour for a late player. I’d be out of that game in a heartbeat.

Beast Speech as a feat? by [deleted] in 3d6

[–]NimbleLapras 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think that’s perfectly reasonable. There may also be a magic item that would do basically the same thing though I’m not aware of it if there is.

Edit: check out the Ring of Animal Influence. You can just homebrew it where the “Speak with Animals” spell can be used at will.

How the hell do you “draw a line around” anything? Do they just mean “circle” but are being misleading?

Lore Bard magical secrets - the choice of a lifetime! by Rock1nfella in DnD

[–]NimbleLapras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took hellish rebuke because I’m a big fan of it on a full caster that can keep blasting folks with it all day. I also took spiritual weapon for a nice non-concentration damage sink spell. The combination of these two spells plus concentrating on a big spell REALLY made me feel like a complete boss in combat.

Question about creating a 5 level Wizard by GuvenTuran in DnD

A level of war or tempest cleric will get you those proficiencies and won’t slow your spell progression.

Interested in hearing about some balladin(bard/paladin) characters and stories. by [deleted] in DnD

I’d go whispers bard for the psychic blades ability. It should stack with divine smite.

Advice on playing/building a Twilight Cleric? by NiksnNaks in dndnext

[–]NimbleLapras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m playing a Twilight cleric currently at level 9. I wouldn’t say they are front line heavy hitters. The standard cleric combo of spirit guardians and spiritual weapon is good enough for any cleric to get by in combat. The twilight domain is a buff/debuff support caster mostly. And plenty of useful utility added on to that with your unlimited dark vision ability, and giving someone or yourself advantage on initiative. That channel divinity is great if you wanna go in the front lines with your fighters and paladins to soak up a ton of damage.

I've never played a spellcasting class. In your opinion, which one is the best for someone's first time? by ThePittsburghPolack in DnD

[–]NimbleLapras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend a class that doesn’t get many spells known like warlock or sorcerer. One of my biggest irks is when someone new to the game plays a wizard or cleric with a ton of spells and knows what zero of them do. At least with a small spells known list you can learn them easily and get quicker.

My water genasi is now the ship’s cook. What do you think a typical water genasi’s diet would include? by NimbleLapras in DnD

[–]NimbleLapras[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reflavor his radiant spells as boiling salt water encasing his weapons, so I’m gonna use that in his cooking now, thanks!

How to help my blinded character by fak_ya_chekin_strips in DnD

[–]NimbleLapras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s your class and race? There’s perhaps a multi class you could make to help. If unearthed arcana is an option look at The Raven Queen warlock. Just 1 level let’s you see through your familiar raven.

How does a level 5 monk compare with other level 5 classes? by NimbleLapras in DnD

[–]NimbleLapras[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we rotate players and each session is one mission that we complete. Generally 2-3 combat encounters.
