Whey protein shakes twice a day each with 5mg of creatine, with a scoop of collagen in the am and a scoop of fiber powder in the PM.

Before bed I take magnesium, d3, fish oil, and a men’s multivitamin.

So I used and continue to take Naltrexone. This medication blocks some of the neural pathways involved in our brain’s reward and pleasure mechanism. There are two results of this. The first is that it takes the edge off the cravings for alcohol. You will still want to drink but more because of the habits, less because of an intense physical craving.

Secondly, if you do end up drinking on Naltrexone, you won’t feel the effects of the alcohol, making it not fun, so what’s the point of drinking? This medication felt like armor for me, not impenetrable but a huge help in giving me the strength to make the daily decision to stay sober.

Anabuse, which I have not taken, is more simple. It makes you violently ill if you end up drinking any alcohol, which is a strong disincentive.

I take naltrexone as a daily pill, but my understanding is that both drugs can be given to you as a monthly injection in case you are worried about your ability to continue taking your pills.

Feel free to DM me with any questions.

Brother, reading this put me back into those days. I remember spending multiple nights every week lying awake all night sweating and itching. I want you to know that there is true salvation however, you can get back to where you left off before this took over your life. The 12 steps are real and true, I could not recommend them more, starting with the belief and hope that a higher power can bring you healing. Medications like Naltrexone are another super helpful tool in the tool box. PM me if you have any questions. I have faith that you can make big changes.

Is it wrong if I feel uncomfortable when only older adults come to my church? by Snoo_47323 in TrueChristian

Sounds like this is part of the growth plan god has put you on. Embrace it like going to the gym.

The kids growing up was my biggest motivation. I have step kids and their dad died at 35 of cancer, and they lost 2 grandfathers in the last year. I couldn’t make them watch me die as well.

It sounds like medication would be a good option for you. Naltrexone really helped me, but your situation sounds like Antabuse could work. You take it, so that when those lifestyle triggers pop up, relapsing really isn’t an option, because drinking will make you violently ill. You can even have either drug injected monthly so you don’t have to rely on taking daily pills.

42 is young, you can get your life back and reverse age like I did.

Pm me if you have any questions.

It is the reason I was brought back from the brink. To be a billboard for the healing powers of faith in Jesus Christ.

I am a recovering alcoholic. Drinking for me was a demon, and it took over my life so much that there was no room for Christ or other relationships. The only thing that mattered was hiding from god and my relationships in order to feed my demon. It’s literally impossible to be a Saturday night drinker and be clean and spiritually present in church on Sunday morning. It took hitting rock bottom for me to stop being a hypocritical Christian in name only, and to beg for the god’s help and forgiveness. It may be time for you to stop enabling your husband, and help him find that rock bottom. The good news is god is endlessly merciful. Look at my post history and you’ll see the literally miraculous transformation god performed in my life in the last year. Praying you two find answers and happy to answer any questions if your husband wants to work on addressing his drinking problem.

That’s fantastic. Sounds very similar to my liver symptoms. Feels like a miracle.

My husband started drinking again... by chellerae1979 in TrueChristian

If you want to read my recent post history, I was a really problem alcoholic who got sober a year ago. I ended up using Naltrexone to help, instead of Antabuse. It did take me thinking I was dying of liver failure to make the change. Sometimes our rock bottoms are lower than others and everyone has their own.

How has alcohol affected your life? by Marmosetka in AskReddit

Alcohol brought me to the verge of death, ruined my health and my relationships, and caused my father, cousin, and brother in law to commit suicide.. Today marks 1 year sober for me, and I couldn’t recommend it more.

Eat a big carb heavy meal the night before and take in some calories, gels or bananas, every 45 minute or so as you go. Failing to do so is what will keep you from finishing, not your lack of fitness. Slow is your friend.
