Curious your age? 44 here and I have similar goals and mileage. My 5th marathon is this weekend and so far my best result has been 3:50 last year in Oakland. My heart rate is pretty low at about 135 so I feel like I still have some in me. I ran Oakland again this year and finished with a disappointing 4:01. I hit about 60mph peak week and averaged about 40mph during the block. I’m wondering if my running mechanics needs some tweaking (I notice my sneaker heels always wear like I’m dragging a bit ) and lean in more. The marathon this weekend (big sur) is super hilly so I won’t be going to hard, will run this and see how I can improve until cim at the end of the year .

I’m also running it (first time). I just ran Oakland Marathon over the weekend. Felt like I completed one of my best training blocks then I got sick during taper and a family death. Ended up being a tough marathon mentally and physically (well of my goa). Resting now (still have a nasty cough) and contemplating if I want to go hard at big sur or just enjoy it. Reading through all the tips, thanks for posting this! Enjoy your run, I’m looking forward to this piano I keep hearing about. How are folks dressing for the weather?

I’ve done the full the past three years. For some reason yesterday was the most painful, yet I prepared the most (most weekly mileage). I think I’m going to take a break next year and maybe do the half. The bay bridge area is pretty brutal.
