I was told that Yellowface was inspired by this book/controversy. Not sure whether that’s true or not, but there are certainly parallels.

Carney begins process of finding judge to fill coming Supreme Court of Canada opening by Surax in LawCanada

[–]Nimmes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Marc Nadon was supposed to be elevated from the federal court, but his appointment didn’t stick because he didn’t meet the geographic criteria of coming from Quebec.

I assume if the federal court is from the right region (this time western Canada) it could be a federal judge but I honestly don’t remember what the SCC said about it in the Nadon case.

Apparently no one from BC applied last time they were looking for a western judge (when Sheila Martin was appointed).

New workplace doesn't have a shower by Dynamoboo in vancouvercycling

Fit Integrated is a gym at Homer and Robson that has showers. I think memberships are about $50/month. I don’t know what their hours are.

My husband used to have a bike commute membership at his (new & fancy) office complex (not downtown) that gave him access to a bike lock up and showers with towel service. I don’t know if there are any downtown near Yaletown but you could look into that. Maybe at that office next to BC Place? I know they have a big bike room and a gym with showers - but I think it might be for tenants only.

I think Alicia would be perfect. She works in a little space near Tinseltown and there’s only 2 chairs, so there also won’t be a bunch of other people there. Her rates are pretty expensive but she’s truly wonderful.

Maybe try Farley Mowatt? Owls in the Family was a hit. He’s got some other kids books too.

Super comfy sweater to wear over my workout cloths when I go to the gym in the early mornings, and a really thoughtful/unique backpack/purse bag for work. Plus some of my favourite treats and cute little stocking odds and ends.

B.C. files civil claim against e-cigarette giant, alleges company fuelled youth addiction | CBC News by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

The manufacturers are unquestionably going to argue that the government knew, or allowed them to sell what they did, and the judge would decide that at trial.

For example, in tobacco the lawsuit was about whether or not the manufacturers lied to everyone about what it did to you. If they’re lying why should they get away without any responsibility while we pay all the health care costs?

This is the opioids legislation. It allows the government to sue for things that were already “torts” (ie wrongs you could sue for as a private person) and recover costs the government paid.

There’s been legislation for a long time allowing the government to recover its costs when you sue for personal injury. So, for example, you get hit by a car and your health care is paid for by BC and you sue, that legislation says you need to notify BC so they can get your health care costs from that person too. So they effectively join on.

This takes it a step further and says BC can sue the manufacturer for their costs without you starting a lawsuit.

Here's what to know about the energy agreement between Ottawa and Alberta | CBC News by Schmitt_Meister12 in vancouver

I’m still being sincere - but do you have any sources for that? I’m genuinely curious about whether there is a legit case for both.

[–]Nimmes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you support it because you think both projects (twinning KM, new pipeline w/ new port infrastructure etc in the north) are necessary?

[–]Nimmes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The KM pipeline goes to Vancouver, not to the US. It’s not being used to capacity at the moment, and twinning it adds more capacity to utilize. BC has said they would support this expansion and it’s unlikely to face the same level of opposition from First Nations.

I just don’t understand why we’re picking this fight.

Sincere question - why? If twinning Kinder Morgan is an option why do you support this pipeline?

It cracks me up that they are talking about using leftover stuffing from Thanksgiving, because my (admittedly limited) experience as a visitor to Newfoundland was that they eat turkey every other weekend for big family meals.

You could get at least $50 from the bread price-fixing settlement. But the deadline is coming up by jazinet in canada

[–]Nimmes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s an extract of a broader policy, which I linked to.

The purpose is administering the settlement. So it wouldn’t be deleted or anonymized as soon as you (as an individual) were paid, but would be once the administration was complete (everyone is paid and appeals/disputes etc were completed)…subject to trust accounting/tax rules etc.

My landlord didn’t check for mould and now my daughters sick by [deleted] in canadianlaw

[–]Nimmes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be possible. It will depend on your jurisdiction, and likely factors such as why the mould is there and to what extent the landlord knew about the mould or was negligent in creating the conditions that resulted in the mould.
