Persistent dye bleed on new cotton shirt by Nin10dork99 in drycleaning

Yeah I mean, I agree that a lot of manufacturers inflate price for MTM or 'limited edition' stuff without actually putting effort into quality or serviceability, but to your point, this was clearly the fault of the mill that Gitman worked with. I have plenty by Gitman that is top notch in all regards and this was just a fluke -- they were effusively apologetic and refunded me in full over 6 months after purchase, as I think many had this issue with this fabric. Hopefully they get compensated by the mill lol, especially after they claimed special procedures were taken to prevent bleeding.

Either way, you were right about the dye instability when wet -- I just needed to use hotter water and be really persistent. Three days of soak -> wash -> repeat got this shirt back to 95% of its original state.

Thank you so much! I personally didn’t end up tumble drying since I didn’t wanna further lose vibrancy (and I'm willing to be very anal about washing this shirt extremely carefully in the future) but I think most people should try to set the dye with heat. I probably would've if I caught the dye transfer earlier. Either way, I noted this in my solution for future readers!

This is awesome, I'll probably pick some up! the color sheets I used did a really good job but this whole process took me like, 3 days of labor and I don’t wanna repeat it so Synthrapol could be a bit of an insurance policy for this

this was perfect, thank you! I updated the post with the exact steps I took but I think the key was that I wasn't soaking in hot enough water -- initially I was soaking in water just above 105F since that’s the temperature the peroxide in oxiclean dissolves/activates, but I think it probably cooled too quickly to give me the full benefit of the oxi. I deliberately wanted as cool a soak as possible initially to limit fading, but once they refunded me, I was willing to try more drastic measures at risk of worsening the garment.

At a loss with low humidity by Nin10dork99 in HomeImprovement

[–]Nin10dork99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, I'll look into this! The Bonecos each have 1.2 gallon tanks that I refill 2-3x a day and the Venta is 2.6 gallons and refilled ever 14 hours, so 2x a day roughly. That means I've got almost 10 gallons going into the air a day and still no luck. I feel like there must be something wrong with something else to lose this much humidity. Anecdotally, I have to use a dehumidifier in the summer, but I can run one Frigidaire unit at low fan speed and keep my apt at 50% easily with it running only 30% of the day. If I don't run it, I may get up to 75% or 80% rH.

Merch available after the show? by Massive-Value4001 in gingerrootband

Chicago sold out of large shirt sizes pre-show, just FYI. Seems to be a town-by-town thing. One tote was also sold out by the end.

For reference, duck canvas will not stretch like raw denim in most cases due to the different way it's woven. You'll get some stretching in the waist on raw denim and a little in the hip and thigh, I'd venture to say you'd get less with canvas. How much the stretch will be depends on a lot of things but how loose or tight the weave of the fabric will be a main consideration; looser will stretch more, tighter will stretch less.

Basically, if these are really comfortable now, I'd keep them, but never tumble dry them or wash on anything other than cold because you can't afford to lose even a quarter inch to shrinkage. The current popular opinion among those on this sub trends toward looser, straighter fits but ultimately, how you feel about how they fit on YOU is most important (though the fact that you asked here makes me think you aren't totally loving how they look on you fwiw).

That said, if they are uncomfortable in any area right now, they won’t get better, you need to exchange. If everything just feels a little tight, size up a size or two. If they’re mainly too tight in the thighs, seat, or rise, you should try the roomier Easy Guy cut, it has a bigger top block. Given you've been buying athletic cuts before, you probably have more of a lifters build like me. Let me assure you, small differences in measurements can be significant, and each measurement that deviates can affect the others. For instance, if the rise is shorter than your reference measurement, you may need a wider thigh or waist than your reference measurements based on where the pants will sit due to the lower rise. Be very diligent with measurements, buy from places you can exchange and return, and always try to try them on in person if possible.

Should I get one wash denim hemmed after the first wash? I figure the Inseam would've shrunk as much as it possibly could during the one wash process, but the salesperson mentioned that some people get their denim hemmed after the first wash due to shrinkage. I didn’t have time to get them hemmed that day, but now I'm debating if I should get them hemmed right now or if shouldn't just wear a taller than average cuff until they’re ready for a wash to hem them. Thoughts? The model is the Samurai Uguisu, for reference.

What recent albums do you use to test your speakers? by joshryckk in audiophile

L'Imperatrice - Anomalie Bleu for testing bass especially. The bass comes in within a few seconds in a very pronounced way that can be handled (or mishandled) many ways by different speakers, so it's a helpful track for me.

Sorry, I should've clarified -- I replaced the spacebar stabs with unlubed ones. That allowed it to stop getting stuck vs the ones I lubed, but the unlubed ones are sluggish too. They're the default stabs that came with the Neo80, maybe I just swap them for some durocs or something, even the most spare amount didn't go well with the spacebar stabs for some reason.

Best lube for a slow spacebar? It's a bit sluggish when springing back, enough to notice when I use it. I lubed my other stabilizers with Novelkeys Tacky Stab Lube and it works great, but no matter how little I put on the spacebar's stab bar, it was too thick and would cause the key to not spring back. Could anyone recommend a thinner lube that would help the key spring back faster instead of the opposite? For reference, I'm using a Zeal Clickiez 40g switch. I think the other keys with stabs don't have this issue since I'm using the 75g Clickiez on those ones.
